This volume is concerned with the basic problems of the theory of thermoelasticity for three models of continuous bodies: materials with voids, micropolar solids and nonsimple bodies. Beginning with the basic laws of thermodynamics, the theory of thermoelastic materials with voids is treated. Two subsequent chapters cover the analysis of the linear theory of micropolar thermoelastic bodies. The book concludes with a study of nonsimple thermoelastic materials, which are characterised by the inclusion of higher gradients of displacement in the basic postulates. Relevant examples and exercises which illustrate the theory are given throughout the text. The book should be of interest to mathematicians and specialists working in the fields of elasticity, thermoelasticity, civil engineering and geophysics.
The theory of thermoelasticity studies the interaction between thermal and mechan ical fields in elastic bodies. This theory is of interest both for the mathematical and technical point of view. Intense interest has been shown recently in this field owing to the great practical importance of dynamical effects in aeronautics, nu clear reactors, and its potential importance in cryogenic applications. This work is concerned mainly with basic problems of the theory of thermoelasticity. This book is essentially made up of the lecture notes delivered by seven authors at the International Centre for Mechanical Sciences in Udine in June 1979. This monograph is concerned with the equilibrium of linearly elastic cylinders. It gives an up-to-date and systematic treatment of extension, bending, torsion and flexure of cylinders, including the deformation of homogeneous and nonhomogeneous anisotropic elastic cylinders by loads distributed on their lateral surfaces. Minimum energy characterizations of the solutions are discussed. An analysis of Saint-Venant's principle, in the context for which it was originally intended, is also presented. Many of the results included have not appeared or been previously discussed in the literature, and illustrative applications are presented throughout.

This book describes several tractable theories for fluid flow in porous media. The important mathematical quations about structural stability and spatial decay are address.
