The Expression of Tense, Aspect, Modality and Evidentiality in Albert Camus’s L'Étranger and Its Translations / L'Étranger de Camus et ses traductions : questions de temps, d'aspect, de modalité et d'évidentialité (TAME)
This book deals with the linguistic treatment of tense-aspect-modal-evidential (TAME) expressions in translations of the French novel L’Étranger by Albert Camus into sixteen languages. It is strongly empirical in spirit, and uses the method of contrastive linguistics and multilingual comparison through the use of parallel corpora. It has five main parts: the first two offer insights into perfect and imperfect tenses in Indo-European languages; the third part shifts the focus on non Indo-European languages; the fourth part deals with modality, and the last part is more translation-oriented. These contents make this book a valuable contribution in semantic micro-typology. In terms of readership, both linguists and specialists in translation, as well as literature scholars, can benefit from the contributions presented in this book. It also relates to other usage-based, corpus-driven studies of TAME phenomena, and to monographs that take as their object of study the use of corpus linguistics in translation studies.
Temps et aspect en Vietnamien
Le vietnamien, langue isolante, est dépourvu de temps grammaticaux. Les marqueurs ĐÃ, ĐANG, RỒI, SÁP, VÙẢ, MÓỈexpriment essentiellement l'aspect, et non le temps. Il existe deux situations opposées en vietnamien : l'absence de marqueur (ZERO ou Ø) et la présence de marqueurs (ĐÃ, ĐANG, RÔI, CHUẢ, TUN̉G, SÁ︣P, SE,̃ VÙẢ, MÓỈ). En termes de statistiques, la fréquence d'emploi de ZERO dépasse de très loin celle de tous les marqueurs réunis, car ZERO et les circonstanciels de temps localisateurs sont les principaux moyens pour situer les procès dans le temps. Né du sens verbal "mettre un terme à quelque chose", ĐÃ indique que le terme du procès est atteint aux points de référence choisis. C'est le seul marqueur capable de se combiner avec les autres marqueurs. Issu du sens verbal "être au milieu de", ĐANG, traduit la valeur de procès en cours aux points de référence choisis.

Le présent recueil, qui rassemble l'ensemble des contributions à la Journée Scientifique de la Société de Linguistique de Paris du 22 janvier 2022, a réuni des linguistes de spécialités diverses autour de questions relatives à l'applicatif, à ses diverses manifestations dans des langues naturelles ainsi qu'à la question de la théorisation et de la modélisation de cette notion. Composé de onze travaux, cet opus tente d'apporter des éclairages généraux et typologiques, dans des perspectives synchroniques, diachroniques mais surtout comparatives, sur la multifonctionnalité de l'applicatif dont les comportements morphologiques, syntaxiques, sémantiques, voire pragmatiques s'observent à travers des langues appartenant à des familles différentes. Sont examinées et discutées des données venant des langues atlantiques et bantoues, de l'innu-aimun, de l'omaha, des langues Nord sinitiques et gyalrongiques, mais aussi du mandarin standard et du sanskrit védique.

Beyond Aspectual Semantics
This volume brings together insights from leading scholars in the field of grammatical aspect to examine the multifaceted nature of this pivotal linguistic resource used to express temporal meaning. The contributors explore the many ways in which linguistic research can move beyond canonical semantic analyses of aspect, which still focus to a great extent on objective temporal features of what can be called 'situation models', i.e. integrated cognitive representations of designated states of affairs. The chapters in this volume widen this outlook by concentrating on less typical contexts in which aspectual constructions are used, e.g. for affective purposes, to mark the epistemic status of situations, or to shape narrative structures. This focus on non-prototypicality is also reflected in the languages investigated, many of which are understudied with respect to their aspectual constructions, including several African languages and the sign language Kata Kolok. The volume adopts a multidisciplinary methodological approach, and introduces possible directions for future research based on experimental studies, fieldwork research, and translation mining.
De la transcatégorialité dans les langues
Cet opus qui s'adresse aux spécialistes en linguistique théorique et typologique, ainsi qu'à ceux qui s'intéressent à la problématique générale de la catégorisation en linguistique, met au coeur du débat la notion de transcatégorialité et ses manifestations dans les langues. Considérée comme un moyen d'optimisation des systèmes linguistiques, en associant un maximum de fonctions à un minimum de formes, elle introduit en revanche une complexité de type absolu, due à l'absence de biunivocité entre forme et sens. Les onze études, précédées d'un texte introductif, s'attachent, d'une part à apporter des éclairages théoriques et empiriques sur la transcatégorialité, d'autre part à décrire et à modéliser le comportement de morphèmes transcatégoriels, que ce soit du point de vue diachronique ou synchronique. Des données d'une riche palette de langues génétiquement et typologiquement éloignées (anglais, arabe, chinois, créole haïtien, créole mauricien, éwé, français, mazatec, swahili, tagalog, vietnamien, wolof) sont considérées.
