He doesn’t mind breaking rules, just never his own. Rule #1: You don’t seduce the woman you protect. An epic romantic adventure that will transport you to another world, a rich story about love and hate, honor and evil, hope and justice set against the backdrop of the teeming Amazon rain forest. After the death of his wife and twin sons, Army vet Ian Slaney is a shadow of his former self. On the path of self-destruction, only his best friend’s disappearance in South America pulls Ian back from the ledge. He rushes to Brazil, only to discover that his friend was murdered. The single lead in the case is also the single biggest obstacle—Daniela, a mysterious beauty very much in need of protection, with a host of secrets hidden in a dark past. As the two of them track down clues and try to untangle an impossible case, they draw the attention of all the wrong people, and danger follows them back to the US. Ian wants the murderers. Daniela wants Ian to acknowledge the hot sparks of passion between them. But convincing Ian to set aside his protective instincts proves more difficult than turning an anaconda vegetarian.
Recently arrived in London and looking for a fresh start, Fran finds a new lover and a part-time job in a local boutique, Frocks and Chocs. Little does she imagine that this move will draw her into Junoco, a groundbreaking and risky enterprise involving curious wild birds, dark chocolates in blue and gold wrappers and a secret formula that provokes interest among shady commercial competitors. Inspired by the extraordinary effects of the ‘Junoco Truffles’, Fran jumps at the chance to follow the bold spirit of her childhood friend Judi, while also facing awkward questions about the ethics and dubious legality of the chocolate venture. What level of deception is involved, who are they up against and which of her new friends and associates can be trusted? By turns thoughtful, tense, funny and subversive, Secrets of Blue and Gold is a story about the mysteries of brainpower, the delights and excesses of human curiosity and the strange magic of intimate friendships.
This monograph provides an overview of recent developments in and new applications for multinomial processing tree (MPT) modeling in cognitive psychology and related fields. Multinomial models are a class of stochastic models tailored to specific research paradigms that allow the measurement of latent cognitive processes underlying observed responses. An introductory review and literature survey in this monograph outlines the family of MPT models, the typical steps in MPT model analyses, the use of MPT models in cognitive psychology, statistical considerations, and computer programs for MPT modeling. Original research articles then present novel MPT modeling approaches in different fields, including episodic memory, binary choice models and "guessing," and word Identification in early reading. Discussions of matters such as cognitive psychometrics and ongoing developments of MPT modeling throughout the contributions clearly demonstrate how active this field of research is and the wide range of applications of multinomial modeling.

A proposal to redefine design in a way that not only challenges the field's dominant paradigms but also changes the practice of design itself. In Critical Fabulations, Daniela Rosner proposes redefining design as investigative and activist, personal and culturally situated, responsive and responsible. Challenging the field's dominant paradigms and reinterpreting its history, Rosner wants to change the way we historicize the practice, reworking it from the inside. Focusing on the development of computational systems, she takes on powerful narratives of innovation and technology shaped by the professional expertise that has become integral to the field's mounting status within the new industrial economy. To do so, she intervenes in legacies of design, expanding what is considered "design" to include long-silenced narratives of practice, and enhancing existing design methodologies based on these rediscovered inheritances. Drawing on discourses of feminist technoscience, she examines craftwork's contributions to computing innovation--how craftwork becomes hardware manufacturing, and how hardware manufacturing becomes craftwork.
