All papers were peer reviewed. The Conference on Nuclei at the Limits covered most of the current experimental and theoretical research in the structure of nuclei. The emphasis was on: nuclei at the limits of their existence in spin, excitation energy, charge and proton-number; neutron-rich nuclei; and the implications of nuclear structure for astrophysics.
Nuclear Structure
The Conference OC Bologna 2000: Structure of the Nucleus at the Dawn of the CenturyOCO was devoted to a discipline which has seen a strong revival of research activities in the last decade. New experimental results and theoretical developments in nuclear physics will certainly make important contributions to our knowledge and understanding of Nature's fundamental building blocks. The interest aroused by the Conference among the scientific community was clearly reflected in the large number of participants. These represented the most important nuclear physics laboratories in the world. The Conference covered five major topics of modern nuclear physics: nuclear structure, nucleusOConucleus collisions, hadron dynamics, nuclear astrophysics, and transdisciplinary and peaceful applications of nuclear science. It reviewed recent progress in the field and provided a forum for the discussion of current and future research projects. Exotic Nuclei and Atomic Masses
The ENAM2001 Conference was held on July 2-7, 2001 at the Rantasipi Aulanko Hotel in Hameenlinna in southern Finland. The conference was organized by the Department of Physics and the Accelerator Laboratory of the University of Jyvaskyla with support from the Physics Departments of the Universities of Helsinki and Turku. This conference, Exotic Nuclei and Atomic Masses has now gained the status of a major nuclear physics serial conference. The previous conference was held in Bellaire, Michigan, USA. Proton-Emitting Nuclei
The first measurement of angular distribution of emitted protons was announced at this conference. In addition, the conference covered the recent developments in the field of exotic decays competing with ß+ decay in proton rich nuclei. Topics included: experiments on one proton emission, theory on one proton emission, two proton emission, alpha emission, beta delayed proton emission and gamma spectroscopy, nuclear astrophysics, and experimental techniques.
