Showing and Telling: Film heritage institutes and their performance of public accountability
'Showing and Telling' is the first academic work to explore how publicly funded film heritage institutes account for their mandate in their public activities. It does that by inspecting and evaluating public presentations and visitor information about these presentations. The research was done by juxtaposing two complementary approaches. The first is grounded in the author’s experience as a collection researcher and curator and makes a case for the richness of archival objects usually ignored for their lack of aesthetic qualities. Published for 010 Publisher's twentieth anniversary in 2003, this volume celebrates the publishing vision of Hans Oldewarris and Peter de Winter, 010's founders. Besides hundreds of monographs by and about Dutch architects, 010 has published books on architecture, interior design, photography, industrial design, graphic design and the visual arts. Exhaustively annotated and illustrated, 20 Years 010 provides not only the technical details of each book (size, format, binding) but also the authors, editors, photographers, graphic designers and printers. Zero Gravity
Daniel Canogar's photographs and photographic installations have long dwelt on issues of immersion and realism, of corporeal images and sensations, of light instrumentalized to reveal figments and traces of visual matter. His consistent use of photography undermines and transcends simple questions of photographic realism through play and variable scales, obsessive pseudo-repetition, and disconcerting projection procedures and surfaces. The Zero Gravity opus contains Departure, a forest of manipulable fiber optic cables that obliges spectators to blaze their own image trails; Pulse of Darkness projects an endless wall-to-wall loop of photographed bones; and Leap of Faith adopts a panoramic cylindrical structure as an ethereal white surface charged with dozens of floating bodies. Daniel Canogar was born in 1964 in Madrid, where he continues to live and work. He studied visual communications and received a Master's in photography from New York University and the International Center for Photography.
