Disability Management is perceived and understood to be an important approach to reducing the negative impact, for workers and the company, of absence due to illness and accidents, and to assisting those with disabilities to enter or re-enter the workplace. Disability Management has already become established in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and the USA. Recently European countries have begun to promote the approach in order to reduce illness related expenses and avoid unemployment, early retirement and costs to the welfare state. In Disability Management and Workplace Integration leading researchers from around the World consider the development of Disability Management over the last thre...
What is balanced growth? This book shows that the definitions and implications of the concept of balanced growth vary significantly among the different disciplines in economic science, but are not exclusive at all. Terms such as sustainability or balanced growth have become buzzwords. In practice, they are often a desirable vision rather than an achievable objective. Why? Doubts may arise about the extent to which such concepts are compatible with a modern market economy. Is balanced growth possible at all? Is it reasonable to accept balanced growth as a norm? Why should a balanced growth path be a desirable strategy to pursue for policymakers, managers, employees, and other societal stakeho...
Demographic change is one of the most crucial issues of our time. This book sheds light on the demographic implications companies face. Based on an integrated framework, the book investigates three important perspectives: An economic and social perspective helps organisations and managers better understand the basic parameters of demographic change and its influences on the labour market. A human resources and leadership perspective reveals how age management can help retain employees of different age groups as motivated and productive workforce members. An innovation and marketing perspective examines how companies can exploit the potentials that senior customers offer. A combination of res...
Globally, the prevalence of disability is growing, as is disability awareness. The disability rights movement argues that the right to employment is essential for full participation and human dignity. While there have been improvements related to broad diversity programs and policies, those for persons with disabilities, especially less visible or invisible disabilities, have received less attention. Contextual factors such as the legal environment and protections, cultural and social values, religious norms, and broader economic conditions shape the employment prospects for persons with disabilities. The De Gruyter Handbook of Disability and Management uses an interdisciplinary lens to stud...
The Journal of Cultural Management and Cultural Policy offers international perspectives on a wide range of issues in cultural management and cultural policy research and practice. Attendance at museums and other arts organizations has decreased worldwide, even predating COVID. Audiences have been slow to return to performances and exhibits. Reasons include lack of access, lack of time, high cost, persistent inequities, poor engagement between arts organizations and the community, and even lack of interest. Concern about non-attendance has led to coining the term non-visitors. This issue seeks answers to this problem through two critical lenses of engagement and non-visitor studies.
This book explores the Complementary Management Model. Building on extensive theoretical considerations on management and leadership, it outlines the seven elements of the model: the management actors (1) jointly fulfil management tasks (2) serving two management functions (3) by performing management routines (4) and applying formal management instruments (5), which requires management resources (6) and management unit structures (7). The key mechanisms of Complementary Management include the primacy of employee self-leadership, compensatory interventions of the line manager in the absence of such self-steerage, and active roles for senior managers and HR advisors in the management/leadersh...
