Paul Rainey, an ad salesman, perceives dimly through a fog of psychoactive substances his dissatisfaction with his life- professional, sexual, weekends, the lot. He only wishes there was something he could do about it. And 'something' seems to fall into his lap when a meeting with an old friend and fellow salesman, Eddy Jaw, leads to the offer of a new job. But when this offer turns out to be as misleading as Paul's sales patter, his life and that of his family are transformed in ways very much more peculiar than he ever thought possible.

'A book that reaches so deeply into the human experience that to read it is to be forever changed' ELIZABETH DAY One night in October 2015, twenty-year-old Morgan Hehir went out with friends and never came home. In the aftermath of his funny, talented son's murder, Morgan's father Colin began to keep an extraordinary diary. It became a record of his family's grief, the ensuing trial, and his determined quest to uncover the shocking truth that the police had kept hidden. Inspired by this diary, About A Son is a groundbreaking work of creative non-fiction that asks vital questions about the nature of justice and pays tribute to the unbreakable bond between a father and son. 'No one has a turn of phrase like David Sedaris. This series of essays about his life and family is a joy from start to finish' Adam Kay David Sedaris plays in the snow with his sisters. He goes on vacation with his family. He gets a job selling drinks. He attends his brother's wedding. He mops his sister's floor. He gives directions to a lost traveller. He eats a hamburger. He has his blood sugar tested. It all sounds so normal, doesn't it? In his new book David Sedaris lifts the corner of ordinary life, revealing the absurdity teeming below its surface. His world is alive with obscure desires and hidden motives - a world where forgiveness is automatic and an argument can be the highest form of love. Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim finds one of the wittiest and most original writers at work today at the peak of his form.

South Wind Through the Kitchen

A posthumous collection of recipes and articles—recommended by her friends and fans—from “the best food writer of her time” (Jane Grigson, The Times Literary Supplement). The idea was revived in 1996, when chefs and writers and Elizabeth’s many friends were invited to select their favorite articles and recipes. The names of the contributors—who number among some of our finest food writers, such as Simon Hopkinson, Alice Waters, Sally Clarke, Richard Olney, Paul Levy, and Anne Willan—appear after the ...
