Geophysics and Ocean Waves Studies
The book “Geophysics and Ocean Waves Studies” presents the collected chapters in two sections named “Geophysics” and “Ocean Waves Studies”. The first section, “Geophysics”, provides a thorough overview of using different geophysical methods including gravity, self-potential, and EM in exploration. Moreover, it shows the significance of rock physics properties and enhanced oil recovery phases during oil reservoir production. The second section, “Ocean Waves Studies”, is intended to provide the reader with a strong description of the latest developments in the physical and numerical description of wind-generated and long waves, including some new features discovered in the last few years. The section is organized with the aim to introduce the reader from offshore to nearshore phenomena including a description of wave dissipation and large-scale phenomena (i.e., storm surges and landslide-induced tsunamis). This book shall be of great interest to students, scientists, geologists, geophysicists, and the investment community.
Sports Science Research and Technology Support
This book contains extended and revised versions of selected papers from the Third International Congress on Sports Science Research and Technology Support, icSPORTS 2015, held in Lisbon, Portugal, in 2015. The 9 thoroughly revised and extended papers presented in this volume were carefully reviewed and selected from originally 93 submissions. The papers cover topics in the following main areas: signal processing and motor behavior; sports medicine and support technology; health, sports performance and support technology; and computer systems in sports.
Chapter Land use analysis and coastal structures: Adriatic Coast as a case study
Coastal areas are complex and fragile nature environments, they are strongly anthropized with a high level of pollution, habitat and ecological functions loss. The study area is the Italian coastal belt between Conero Promontory and Punta Aderci. The main goal of the work is both to analyse the present mosaic of land use/cover and investigate the morphodynamic processes to define rules necessary for the sector planning (e.g., Coastal defense planning, water catchment planning) and local planning.
Marine Sediments
In recent years, increasing attention has been paid to water quality and environmental aspects related to sediment transport, driven by both ambient forcing and human activities. Estuarine, coastal, and harbor areas often undergo operations to nourish beaches, to maintain navigation channels, and to remove contaminated sediment. Hence, much research is needed related to the sediment processes, transport, and related environmental aspects of marine sediments. The aim of this Special Issue is to exhibit novel research results in this field. Particular attention is paid to water quality and environmental aspects relating to sediment transport driven by anthropogenic activities and natural phenomena: spillover due to tidal processes, metals mobility, coastal modifications driven by extreme events and mean wave climate, sediments re-suspension and dispersion related to marine sediment handling.
Modeling of Sediment Transport
This book presents the latest developments and research in sediment transport. It includes five chapters that address sediment transport estimation, experimental investigation of the physical properties of porous media, and numerical approaches to sediment transport modelling.
Ninth International Symposium “Monitoring of Mediterranean Coastal Areas: Problems and Measurement Techniques”
The ninth International Symposium Monitoring of Mediterranean Coastal Areas: Problems and Measurements Techniques was organized by CNR-IBE in collaboration with Italian Society of Silviculture and Forest Ecology, and Natural History Museum of the Mediterranean and under the patronage of University of Florence, Accademia dei Lincei, Accademia dei Georgofili, Tuscany Region, The North Tyrrhenian Sea Ports System Authority, Livorno Municipality and Livorno Province. In the Symposium Scholars had illustrated their activities and exchanged innovative proposals, with common aims to promote actions to preserve coastal marine environment. Despite the COVID 19 pandemic, the success of this edition is attested by the 170 contributions selected by the Scientific Committee from among those received. Participation involved all the thematic lines envisaged by the sessions, involving many countries of the Mediterranean Sea. A big endeavor for a costal environment of paramount importance but threatened by global changes. The importance of this Proceedings is attested by the fact that this volume is the first issue of a new FUP Series.
