Research in Science Education (RISE) Volume 6, Research Based Undergraduate Science Teaching examines research, theory, and practice concerning issues of teaching science with undergraduates. This RISE volume addresses higher education faculty and all who teach entry level science. The focus is on helping undergraduates develop a basic science literacy leading to scientific expertise. RISE Volume 6 focuses on research-based reforms leading to best practices in teaching undergraduates in science and engineering. The goal of this volume is to provide a research foundation for the professional development of faculty teaching undergraduate science. Such science instruction should have short- and...
This hands-on, minds-on approach to science teaches the attributes of magnets through scientific experimentation. Your students will gauge the ability a magnet has to attract objects, judge which magnets are the strongest, measure how far a magnet pulls an object, build a compass, and more. Each of the 14 lessons consists of a teacher's background information sheet and a reproducible student worksheet. Your students will love learning about magnets while completing the fun experiments. They will not only gain an understanding about magnets and their functions, but also how scientific experimentation can answer many of the questions they may have about the world.
STEM play provides varied activities for the most common centers: Art, blocks, dramatic play, literacy, math, science and movement. Also includes a "how To" section for teachers.
The 12 lessons in this module introduce students to the five senses as they explore their own uses of taste, smell, touch, sight, and hearing. Also included:materials lists activity descriptions questioning techniques activity centre and extension ideas assessment suggestions activity sheets and visuals The module offers a detailed introduction to the Hands-On Science program (guiding principles, implementation guidelines, an overview of the skills that young students use and develop during scientific inquiry), a list of children's books and websites related to the science topics introduced, and a classroom assessment plan with record-keeping templates.
When a marauding slave ship captures her sister, Melkorka, eight-year-old Brigid is lost at sea but survives, disguised as a boy, and sets out to rescue Melkorka, and as the years pass she becomes a woman, reputed to be fierce enough to conquer a man, but desirous only of reuniting with her family.
