À quelques mois de la retraite, Thierry Luthers a co-signé un documentaire sans concessions sur le monde du foot, « Le milieu du terrain », qui a fait beaucoup de bruit. Le 1er mai 2022, ce sera la fin de sa longue aventure à la RTBF : 42 ans d’une carrière incroyablement remplie. De Carl Lewis ou Eden Hazard à Michel Piccoli en passant par Serge Gainsbourg ou Jean-Jacques Goldman, il a rencontré et interviewé les plus grandes stars. Des Jeux Olympiques à la Coupe du Monde de football, il a commenté les plus grands événements sportifs de la planète. Passionné de sport, d’histoire, de cinéma, de Johnny Hallyday, de tombes de personnalités, il a vécu à 100 à l’heure tout au long de ces 4 décennies. Dans ce tourbillon professionnel et privé, il a connu des moments d’émotions, de joies mais aussi de peines, comme la disparition de son frère, Philippe, en 2007, et qui l’a profondément marqué. Ce bulletin accablant ne se contente pas de présenter les manquements et les erreurs du football belge, il veut aussi sonner la fin de la récréation et apporter des solutions réalistes pour enfin changer les choses.
