I have chosen to work on “Nishi” as I was always fascinated about the tribal cultures. As Northeast India is a homeland of many tribal communities with living traditions, Nishis were one of them. Twilight on the Yamuna, traces the footsteps of Sandy, a young South Asian girl, whose search for love and truth brings her face to face with the harsh realities of a world no longer separated by stereotypes and presumptions. The novel retains a unique characterization that bridges literary and commercial fiction in a ‘mythic’ context, by drawing allusions between a ‘spiritual’ world, reflected in the narrator’s poetic oration at the beginning of each chapter, and the ‘contemporary’ society, reflected in the prose of the novel itself.
