This edited volume, Hormone Therapy and Replacement in Cancer and Aging-related Diseases, is a collection of reviewed and relevant research chapters, offering a comprehensive overview of recent developments in the field of hormone replacement therapy. The book comprises single chapters authored by various researchers and edited by experts active in the hormone replacement therapy research area. All chapters are complete in themselves but united under a common research study topic. This publication aims at providing a thorough overview of the latest research efforts by international authors on hormone replacement therapy, and opens new possible research paths for further novel developments.
Cancer Treatment: Conventional and Innovative Approaches is an attempt to integrate into a book volume the various aspects of cancer treatment, compiling comprehensive reviews written by an international team of experts in the field. The volume is presented in six sections: i) Section 1: Cancer treatment: Conventional and innovative pharmacological approaches; ii) Section 2: Combinatorial strategies to fight cancer: Surgery, radiotherapy, backytherapy, chemotherapy, and hyperthermia; iii) Section 3: The immunotherapy of cancer; iv) Section 4: Multidisciplinarity in cancer therapy: nutrition and beyond; v) Section 5: Supportive care for cancer patients; vi) Section 6: Perspectives in cancer biology and modeling. Ultimately, we hope this book can enlighten important issues involved in the management of cancer, summarizing the state-of-the-art knowledge regarding the disease control and treatment; thus, providing means to improve the overall care of patients that daily battle against this potentially lethal condition.

Breast Cancer - From Biology to Medicine thoroughly examines breast cancer from basic definitions, to cellular and molecular biology, to diagnosis and treatment. This book also has some additional focus on preclinical and clinical results in diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer. The book begins with introduction on epidemiology and pathophysiology of breast cancer in Section 1. In Section 2, the subsequent chapters introduce molecular and cellular biology of breast cancer with some particular signaling pathways, the gene expression, as well as the gene methylation and genomic imprinting, especially the existence of breast cancer stem cells. In Section 3, some new diagnostic methods and updated therapies from surgery, chemotherapy, hormone therapy, immunotherapy, radiotherapy, and some complementary therapies are discussed. This book provides a succinct yet comprehensive overview of breast cancer for advanced students, graduate students, and researchers as well as those working with breast cancer in a clinical setting.

New Treatments of Leukemia and Lymphoma describes the most important advances in the therapy of hematopoietic cancers that have been derived from recent discoveries in cancer cell biology, kinase biochemistry, and immunology. Detailed descriptions of the large number of new and effective agents that have recently become available for the treatment of leukemias and lymphomas as well as an understanding of their mechanisms of action and their integration into current therapy are provided. A number of experimental drug reagents currently in clinical investigation are also discussed. The therapies include conventional anti-metabolites, monoclonal antibodies directed to cell surface receptors, an...
From the reviews of the First Edition. "An interesting, useful, and well-written book on logistic regression models . . . Hosmer and Lemeshow have used very little mathematics, have presented difficult concepts heuristically and through illustrative examples, and have included references." —Choice "Well written, clearly organized, and comprehensive . . . the authors carefully walk the reader through the estimation of interpretation of coefficients from a wide variety of logistic regression models . . . their careful explication of the quantitative re-expression of coefficients from these various models is excellent." —Contemporary Sociology "An extremely well-written book that will certa...
Written by an international team of experts in the field of human carcinogenesis, this book discusses recent advances in cancer research, which include the following topics: basic molecular and cellular mechanisms behind cancer growth, new approaches in cancer therapy, and cancer diagnostic. The book serves as a useful source of reference for cancer biologists, medical doctors, and clinical researchers in the fields of cancer diagnosis, prevention, and treatment.
This book traces the careers of Roy Vagelos, who eventually became the CEO of Merck and Co., Inc.
Oestrogen receptors (ER) are emerging as important molecules involved in the variety of physiological and pathological activities. There are two classic oestrogen receptors: alpha and beta. Different cells and tissues have shown divergent responses to these two oestrogen receptors. While we are starting to understand the interaction between oestrogen receptors and its ligands contributes to the development of various diseases, the discovery of sub-isoforms of oestrogen receptor alpha and beta has further complicated the mechanism of oestrogen receptors. Nevertheless, continuing efforts in the study of oestrogen receptors have helped us to define their roles in diseases and to develop novel therapies against these disorders. The 11 chapters in this book are the excellent evidence to summarise our efforts in this direction. This book should be of great value to not only clinicians and medical students interested in oestrogen/ER-related diseases but also basic scientists working in the field of estrogens/ERs.
