The Valentine was unusual, as unlike most British tanks to see service during WW2 it began life as a private venture. That is, it was not designed to a General Staff (GS) specification, but came off the drawing-board with the intention of exciting enough interest within the military establishment to secure an order. Oysterville

Oysterville is the magnificently told tale of four families who settled up and down the East Coast of America three centuries ago and subsequently migrated west, eventually arriving at the tiny settlement of Oysterville on the Pacific coast in the territory of Washington. Drawing on conversations with elderly relations and friends, on historic letters and documents, Willard Espy affectionately reconstructs his own personal past to give us a rich and revealing account of these families that were born, grew up, and died as the United States itself was being shaped and formed, explored and expanded.

Dufour recounts the lives of nine Confederate officers, who served their cause with dedication, skill and bravery. “Porter Alexander is not a household name today, but he should be remembered as one of Robert E. He and eight other “men in gray” come to life in vivid sketches by Charles L. Dufour. Singled out are Dick Taylor, the handsome son of former president Zachary Taylor who led the Louisiana Brigade; Turner Ashby, an expert horseman whose de...
