This volume collects contributions written by eight authors interested in different research areas in East Asian Studies. Divided into a Japanese and a Chinese section, it explores topics ranging from East Asian literatures to contact linguistics and sociology. The Japanese section contains four essays about contemporary Japanese cinema and different aspects of Japanese modern and contemporary literature (i.e. the literary motif of kame naku, ‘crying turtle’, yuri manga, and tenkō bungaku, the ‘literature of conversion’). The Chinese section concerns two main macro-topics: on the one hand, it focuses on issues related to cultural contacts between Italy and China; on the other hand, it deals with Chinese migration to Italy, highlighting socio-historical aspects and cultural production.

Food issues 食事. Interdisciplinary Studies on Food in Modern and Contemporary East Asiaconcentrates on the relationship among food, culture, literature, and language in a comparative, transcultural, or literary perspective. The contributions investigate these aspects from different approaches: historical, sociological, anthropological, religious, linguistic, and want to deepen issues such as the symbolic value of food; food as an essential element for the construction of individual identity and a sign of belonging to a community; food as an intercultural medium; food as language and the language of food. The articles included in the volume are organized in a Japanese and a Chinese section and use different approaches within humanities disciplines to explore topics ranging from classical and contemporary East Asian literature to present-day issues, focusing on Food Culture and its declinations.
Words and visions around/about Chinese transnational mobilities 流动
This collection gathers the contributions of ten scholars on the topic of transnational cultural and physical mobility originating in China. These contributions aim to open conversations among Chinese Studies scholars by applying a Mobility Studies perspective. Exploring diverse narratives and forms of representation from people of Chinese heritage, the book is divided into three parts that each look closely at the relationship between movement and cultural production. The first part is dedicated to four types of mobility of people from China to Italy, namely tourist mobility (Miriam Castorina), labor mobility (Valentina Pedone), student mobility (Xu Hao), and mobility of social elites (Andrea Scibetta). The second part is dedicated to examples of reverse mobility from Italy to China (Gao Changxu, Chiara Lepri, Giuseppe Rizzuto). The third part focuses on case studies based on mobilities from China to territories other than Italy (Rebecca Ehrenwirth, Martina Renata Prosperi, Giulia Rampolla).
Understanding New Perspectives of Spirituality
This volume was first published by Inter-Disciplinary Press in 2015. This book deals with the rapidly developing field of spirituality. Although having a singularity of focus, the chapters have been written by a cross-cultural and international set of researchers who discuss critical issues from an interdisciplinary perspective. Thus, while a broad range of critical aspects emerge, the chapters are threaded together by the concept of spirituality as a lone walk. While alone, the spiritual journey is also deeply connected to others. As a deeply human experience the chapters in this book therefore reflect the prismatic viewpoints that form the understandings and experiences of the spiritual walk. This book challenges the reader to start to understand the apparent ambiguity this appears to bring to researchers and practitioners. Rather than a roadblock to understanding, the multiple frames and facets this brings it is instead a rich field for the exploration of the human condition.
Plants and vegetation of NW Ethiopia
Pichi Sermolli’s work with his more than 2750 collections of plants from nearly 150 localities on the Lake Tana expedition in Ethiopia in 1937 was interrupted by World War II, but completed in 1947 at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, and the British Museum (Natural History), UK. It resulted in preliminary accounts of the vegetation published 1938-40 and a taxonomically arranged account in 1951, all in Italian. Pichi Sermolli’s observations are difficult to locate due to the imperfect maps of the time, but in this book the authors have reconstructed the sequence of the collections, georeferenced the localities, and updated the identifications of the species. Les Demoiselles d’Avignon and Modernism
The book meticulously analyses the history of the critical reception of avantguard art through the interpretations received by one of its greatest emblems, Les Demoiselles d'Avignon by Picasso, 1907. Since Les Demoiselles has been considered over this century the true paradigm of Modern Art, this book is, fundamentally, a sort of synthesis of the discourses about Modernism from formalism, iconology, Leo Steinberg's 'Other Criteria’, sociological, the biographical and psychoanalytical theses, cultural and historicist and lastly, the impact of post-structuralism and the feminist, post-colonialist and transnational interpretations. The final chapter deals with the artistic versions of Les Demoiselles d'Avignonmade by artists. Il volume affronta il tema dell’impiego educativo del video a 360° all’università, per avvicinare i docenti all’adozione di pratiche didattiche innovative. L’uso di questa tecnologia sta conoscendo una fase di rapida evoluzione, attraendo l’interesse di docenti di aree disciplinari diverse per le potenzialità del video a 360° di anticipare esperienze, specie in contesti a rischio. Il volume offre un quadro teorico e metodologico delle dimensioni coinvolte, accompagnato da un approfondimento sugli aspetti tecnici. Ampio spazio è dedicato ai risultati di SEPA360, un progetto di faculty development sul video a 360°, e alle buone pratiche che ha generato. Il volume può essere un valido strumento per docenti universitari, insegnanti, formatori, interessati all’uso delle tecnologie immersive nella formazione.
Il Settecento portoghese e lusofono
Il volume intende inserirsi all’interno degli studi sul Settecento portoghese già esistenti in Italia e in Portogallo, illustrando tuttavia il XVIII secolo da una nuova prospettiva inclusiva, e non più separatista, tra Portogallo, Macao (nel sud della Cina) e Brasile. La panoramica da ciò derivante offre una visione di insieme — senza alcuna pretesa di esaustività — che permette al lettore di spaziare parallelamente attraverso i tre territori lusofoni. Seguendo tale principio di inclusività, il volume è strutturato in tre capitoli all’interno dei quali vengono illustrati argomenti storiografici, iconografici e letterari del XVIII secolo, mettendo in risalto – attraverso uno sguardo anche europeo coevo – episodi storici, autori, opere letterarie che hanno caratterizzato il Settecento portoghese, asiatico e brasiliano.
Giustizia sostenibile
Il volume sviluppa il concetto di sostenibilità nel settore della giustizia attraverso una serie di contributi che delineano un ampio quadro dei nuovi modelli per l’efficienza della giustizia sollecitati dal PNRR.
