Using data from the WHO's Mortality Database, the authors review the global data on suicide mortality by age groups and critically review the evidence regarding the impact of some public health and clinical interventions on suicide mortality, at population levels, including national suicide prevention strategies, national mental health plans, substance abuse policies, and the use of antidepressant medications.
