The Palgrave Biographical Encyclopedia of Psychology in Latin America
This biographical encyclopedia will provide the first comprehensive reference work on leading scholars and professionals who have contributed to the development and institutionalization of psychology in Latin America. The figures biographed will include scholars who have made a significant theoretical contribution to the discipline, as well as, practitioners and those who have contributed to the institutionalization of psychology, through their work in scientific organisations, professional bodies and publications. All persons included are recognized authorities and either natives of, or long-term residents in the region. It will offer an invaluable reference point, in particular for scholars of the history of psychology, Latin American studies, the history of science, and global psychology; as well as for historians, psychologists and social scientists seeking international perspectives on the development of the discipline.

Beginning with volume 41 (1979), the University of Texas Press became the publisher of the Handbook of Latin American Studies, the most comprehensive annual bibliography in the field. Compiled by the Hispanic Division of the Library of Congress and annotated by a corps of more than 130 specialists in various disciplines, the Handbook alternates from year to year between social sciences and humanities. The Handbook annotates works on Mexico, Central America, the Caribbean and the Guianas, Spanish South America, and Brazil, as well as materials covering Latin America as a whole. Most of the subsections are preceded by introductory essays that serve as biannual evaluations of the literature and research under way in specialized areas. The Handbook of Latin American Studies is the oldest continuing reference work in the field. Lawrence Boudon became the editor in 2000. La lucha armada de 1910 abrió posibilidades para que personas de distintos sectores se expresaran y conquistaran un lugar en lo público de acuerdo con sus ideales e intereses. En este libro se cuenta la historia de cuatro mujeres: Refugio García, Graciela Amador, Concha Michel y Consuelo Uranga, que participaron –junto a sus camaradas– desde los primeros años del Partido Comunista Mexicano (pcm) con la firme intención de construir un mundo más justo e igualitario para los sectores más desfavorecidos –campesinos, obreros y mujeres– convencidas de que la revolución mexicana debía transformarse en una revolución proletaria. Por lo tanto, también es una historia del pcm, pero visto desde otro lugar. Desde los propios escritos y vidas de las mujeres se entreteje una historia intensa en donde los hombres y las mujeres pretenden cambiar el mundo sin lograrlo, pero encuentran estrategias contradictorias de sobrevivencia de sus ideales y de su vida.
