This Research Topic aims to collect all the Case Reports submitted to the Endovascular and Interventional Neurology section. All the Case Reports submitted to this collection will be personally assessed by a senior Associate Editor before the beginning of the peer-review process. Please make sure your article adheres to the following guidelines before submitting it.Case Reports highlight unique cases of patients that present with an unexpected diagnosis, treatment outcome, or clinical course.
This book contains a compilation of the revolution of mechanical thrombectomy (MT) in the treatment of strokes. The initial chapters summarize information about the best medical management of acute ischemic stroke, imaging modalities and patient selection for MT. The book then focuses on the nuances of MT, providing detailed information about the best approaches for anesthesia during MT, access, intra-arterial thrombolysis, recent devices and catheters and technical pitfalls of MT. A specific chapter is dedicated to MT in the venous system. This is followed by a chapter about the most common complications of MT and post-procedural care of these patients. The last chapter covers different ...

Offers wide ranging coverage, including family planning and lactation Presents information in approachable tables and summaries, focusing on high yield information useful for clinical consultation Is written by a team of experts and edited by recognized leaders in the field
Today, mechanical thrombectomy plays an essential role in treating stroke related to major vessel occlusion. The device technology has been evolving in the past decade from the first-generation device of clot retriever (Merci Clot Retrieval System) to stent retrievers and aspiration catheters. With the quality of aspiration catheters improving every year, the treatment strategy has been changing dramatically. Therefore, to improve the efficacy and safety of the new generation devices, preclinical evaluation of the prototype devices using experimental models under the imaging guidance becomes crucial. Various experimental models have been proposed by investigators for the simulation of mechanical thrombectomy. For instance, patient-specific silicon models based on the 3D reconstruction of vessel segments, clinically-representative artificial clot models with various compositional and mechanical features, e.g. (fibrin rich clot, erythrocyte rich clot or mixture of each), and animal models using swine, ovine and canine.
Most cerebrovascular diseases such as intracranial aneurysms (IA), arterio-venous malformations (AVM) or dural fistulas (AVF) can effectively be treated with microsurgical techniques (i.e. clipping) or with endovascular procedures (i.e. coiling). In certain patients, also gamma-knife (radiation) treatment may play a role. Sometimes, the treatment strategy may consist of a staged approach that combines some of the above-mentioned techniques in a serial manner. Likewise, also spinal vascular pathologies (i.e. spinal vascular malformations, spinal dural AV-fistulas or spinal cavernomas) may often be approached with a single treatment modality or, more rare with a staged approach. In selected ca...
