One Life

Sir Nicholas Winton rescued 669 Jewish children from Nazi-occupied Czechoslovakia at the brink of World War II. Most never saw their parents again. This is his story. *Now a major motion picture starring Sir Anthony Hopkins and Helena Bonham Carter* In 1938, 29-year-old "Nicky" cancelled a ski trip and instead spent nine months masterminding a seemingly impossible plan to rescue hundreds of Jewish children and find them homes in the United Kingdom. Over 6,000 people are alive today because of his efforts. What motivated an ordinary man to do something so extraordinary? This book, written by his daughter, Barbara, explores the 106-year life of an incredible humanitarian, a man whose legacy only came to public light decades later. His life story is a clarion call to choose action over apathy in the face of injustice, and a reminder that every one of us can change the world. "If something is not impossible, then there must be a way to do it."

Clausewitz on Small War

Widely recognized as one of the most important theorists of warfare, important strands of Carl von Clausewitz's thinking on the subject are not widely known. In the English-speaking world, few are familiar with anything other than his major, though unfinished and posthumously published, opus On War, which is available in numerous translations. Although the corpus of Clausewitz's writings on the topic of warfare is far greater, most of these texts have never been translated. In Clausewitz on Small War, Christopher Daase and James W. Davis begin to redress this unfortunate state of affairs. In this volume they have assembled and translated Clausewitz's most important texts devoted to the analy...

In this book, Dean Moyar offers a comprehensive reading of Hegel's social and political philosophy, specifically his theory of justice, through the lens of Hegel's inferentialism, his basic theory of rationality. Moyar argues that Hegel's conception of justice depends on the realization of value in an institutional system rooted in the purposes of family members, workers, and citizens. He traces the development of Hegel's theory from its foundation in the modern tradition and its basic conception of property rights; to Hegel's own inclusive conception of value, "the Good"; resulting in a system of just institutions, governed by moral ideals but realized through concrete economic and political processes. Moyar's analysis shows that against the idea that justice is only a matter of securing a set of private entitlements, Hegel constructs a theory of justice incorporating individual rights.
