Computational Methods for Plasticity

The subject of computational plasticity encapsulates the numerical methods used for the finite element simulation of the behaviour of a wide range of engineering materials considered to be plastic – i.e. those that undergo a permanent change of shape in response to an applied force. Computational Methods for Plasticity: Theory and Applications describes the theory of the associated numerical methods for the simulation of a wide range of plastic engineering materials; from the simplest infinitesimal plasticity theory to more complex damage mechanics and finite strain crystal plasticity models. It is split into three parts - basic concepts, small strains and large strains. Beginning with ele...

Vector and Parallel Processing - VECPAR 2000

This book constitutes the thoroughly refereed post-proceedings of the 4th International Conference on Vector and Parallel Processing, VECPAR 2000, held in Porto, Portugal, in June 2000. The 40 revised full papers presented were carefully selected and improved during two rounds of reviewing. The papers are orgainized in topical sections on computational grids - languages and tools in multiplatform environments, cellular automata and applications in computational physics, linear and non-linear algebra, imaging, and finite/discrete elements in engineering applications.

The unique properties of elastomeric materials offer numerous advantages in many engineering applications. Elastomeric units are used as couplings or mountings between rigid components, for example in shock absorbers, vibration insulators, flexible joints, seals and suspensions, etc. However, the complicated nature of the behaviour of such material makes it difficult to accurately predict the performance of these units using finite element modelling, for example. It is imperative that constitutive models accurately capture relevant aspects of mechanical behaviour. The latest developments concerning constitutive modelling of rubber is collected in these Proceedings. Topics included in this volume are, Hyperelastic models, Strength, fracture & fatigue, Dynamic properties & the Fletcher-Gent effect, Micro-mechanical & statistical approaches, Stress softening, iscoelasticity, Filler reinforcement, and Tyres, fibre & cord reinforced rubber.

Computational Methods in Applied Sciences

The European Computational Fluid Dynamics Conference and the European Conference on Numerical Methods in Engineering are the initiative of national Scientific Societies of many countries in Europe engaged in these fields. The 28 papers in this volume give an extensive review on selected topics pertaining to basic methodologies, scientific developments and industrial applications, in fluid dynamics, in structural mechanics and other engineering applications. This multidisciplinary volume brings together specialists in a wide range of engineering activities who employ common analytical and experimental methods in their research. The contents are of world-wide interest and will help to stimulate future research and analysis in this broad field.
