Persoalan kehutanan yang terjadi di Sumbawa terkait dengan masalah Tarik-menarik kepentingan antara pemodal, pemerintah, dan masyarakat lokal (adat) sudah masuk kepada tahap memprihatinkan. Tidak berjalannya hukum sebagaimana mestinya dan tingginya kepentingan pemodal terhadap penebangan kayu ilegal menjadi masalah tersendiri di hutan Sumbawa. Tingginya angka penebangan kayu ilegal di Sumbawa menimbulkan kerusakan parah di hutan Sumbawa, sekaligus menimbulkan persoalan baru di tengah masyarakat Sumbawa. Kerusakan hutan di Kabupaten Sumbawa salah satu disebabkan oleh kegiatan illegal logging. Masalah illegal logging di Kabupaten Sumbawa, dipicu oleh banyak hal, antara lain terkait masalah pemanfaatan kawasan hutan oleh masyarakat, masalah administrasi dalam hal perizinan penebangan kayu, pengusaha kayu yang telah diberikan izin pengecer dan penimbunan kayu melakukan pelanggaran baik yang sifatnya pidana, dan administrasi.
