Volume One deals with the county of Argyll, a location from where may of the pioneer emigrants who settled in colonial North Carolina, upper New York, Jamaica, and the Canadian Maritimes originated. The book does not claim to be a comprehensive directory of all the people of Argyll during the mid-eighteenth century but rather is an attempt to demonstrate the range and quality of material available.
