Poetry. FOCUS is a collection of poems by Donald Lev written for the most part after 2012, and is intended as a sequel to his collection published that year by NYQ Books, A VERY FUNNY FELLOW, whose concluding poem, "This Big Window," imagines needing a telescope. The heavens, it seems to the author 'are seriously overgrown' like his 'neglected yard,' 'his sluggish imagination,' and his 'boxloads of books and neuroses.' From this point, FOCUS struggles bravely, and perhaps blindly, on.

Donald Levs book collects seventy-four poems that are deceptively simple yet infused with a subtle irony that gives them a poignant intimacy. He achieves this through his reliance on direct, honest colloquial speech. We get the impression that his writing is essential to his ongoing sanity, and this is the redemption of poetry itself in the hands of a master. While satiric wit is his apparent stance, these poems are infused with subtle depth and angst. Lev elicits easy comparison to Dorothy Parker, Ogden Nash and the later short poems of Robert Frost. At the age of seventy-eight, Donald Lev still has many tricks up his sleeve. His style is aphoristic, observant and reader-friendly, yet these are pithy poems to return to again and again, full of sound philosophy from a life fully lived.

"Lev Parnas has seen just about everything. A wheeler-dealer from the streets of Brooklyn, his adventures took him to Moscow to Wall Street to Hollywood to Miami to the White House and, eventually, to prison. His fascinating, eye-opening story offers an insider’s view of how money and power actually work to keep the world running exactly the way some want it to." --

The first collection of poetry that allows us to see police officers not just as brutalizers or heroes but as complicated human beings in a position that is sometimes terrifying, sometimes rewarding and often questionable. On a daily basis police save lives, take lives, and risk their own lives. Existing books on police and policing give us a single point-of-view, a black and white story that portrays cops as either saints or villains. This exploration of the dynamic point of understanding makes Off The Cuffs unique. Divided into four sections--Eyewitnesses, Insiders, Victims & Perpetrators, and Dreamers--Off The Cuffs gives us a diversity of voices, telling stories of fear, apprehension, lo...
