The LORD My Shepherd

Psalms is widely considered the most-loved book in the Bible. Its intensely personal passages picture our own struggles, defeats, and victories; its instruction includes numerous principles and practices for godly worship, service, and day-to-day living. The Psalms high praises of Almighty God ring through many of our beloved hymns and songs. Psalms historical scope ranges from the days of creation through prophecies of the Messiah's life, death, resurrection, and coming again. Martin Luther called Psalms a little Bible, and indeed it is. The LORD My Shepherd captures these and many more pertinent subjects in a devotional topical format. It's for understanding and applying the Psalms in your own life and worship. Come, Magnify the LORD with me!

Against the Tide

Young people are surrounded by media militantly attacking biblical virtue and values. The goal of Christian education is still to "present every man perfect in Christ," but postmodernism declares that there is no one right way to live. In the midst of this conflict, many Christian school leaders are surrendering, lowering their expectations in order to bring in more students, tolerating an atmosphere which works against the basic purpose for which the schools were founded. Against the Tide calls the Christian education movement back to its mission. The ideas offered in this book are thoroughly practical. The authors have effectively implemented these principles in their Christian schools. More important, these ideas are thoroughly biblical in their understanding of the role of Christian education and, in particular, of the Christian school, in helping parents to develop Christlike character in young people.

After the Civil War, the Yankee textile industry began a steady transfer south, bringing with it the tradition of a mill village, usually owned by the mill's owner, where the workers and their families lived. The new game of baseball quickly became a foundation of mill village life. A rich tradition of textile league baseball in South Carolina is here reconstructed from newspaper accounts and interviews with former players and fans. Players such as "Shoeless" Joe Jackson and Champ Osteen made their marks as "lintheads" in these semipro leagues. The fierce rivalries between competing mills and the impact of the teams on mill life are recounted. Appendices list club records and rosters for many of the teams from 1880 through 1955.
