A Grammar of Sunwar

This description of Sunwar, an endangered Tibeto-Burman language spoken in eastern Nepal, is based on extensive field work by the author and contains a chapter with background information on the Sunwar language, its speakers and their culture, followed by sections on the phonology, the indigenous writing system and the morphology of Sunwar. Verb paradigms, glossed texts, a Sunwar-English glossary and bibliographical references are also presented. Contact between the Sunwar and Nepali languages resulted in language change, most visible in the verbal system, where the older biactantial agreement system typical for Kiranti languages disappeared and suffix conjugations emerged. This book will interest those interested in descriptive linguistics, language change and languages of South Asia.

C*-Algebras and Their Automorphism Groups

This elegantly edited landmark edition of Gert Kjærgård Pedersen’s C*-Algebras and their Automorphism Groups (1979) carefully and sensitively extends the classic work to reflect the wealth of relevant novel results revealed over the past forty years. Revered from publication for its writing clarity and extremely elegant presentation of a vast space within operator algebras, Pedersen’s monograph is notable for reviewing partially ordered vector spaces and group automorphisms in unusual detail, and by strict intention releasing the C*-algebras from the yoke of representations as Hilbert space operators. Under the editorship of Søren Eilers and Dorte Olesen, the second edition modernizes...

Approaching Dialogue

"Approaching Dialogue" has its primary focus on the theoretical understanding and empirical analysis of talk-in-interaction. It deals with conversation in general as well as talk within institutions against a backdrop of Conversation Analysis, context-based discourse analysis, social pragmatics, socio-cultural theory and interdisciplinary dialogue analysis.People s communicative projects, and the structures and functions of talk-in-interaction, are analyzed from the most local sequences to the comprehensive communicative activity types and genres. A second aim of the book is to explore the possibilities and limitations of dialogism as a general epistemology for cognition and communication. O...
