Organophosphates
Organophosphates are widely used nowadays. They have applications as pesticides, drugs, plasticizers, flame retardants or chemical warfare agents. Their acute toxicity is ascribed to the inhibition of acetylcholinesterase, a key enzyme in the transmission of nerve impulses in animals.
