Setiap pemangku kepentingan dalam dunia pendidikan harus mampu beradaptasi dengan perubahan sosial dan teknologi yang ada di masyarakat (Thora, 2004:237). Salah satu bentuk adaptasi adalah dengan berinovasi baik dari segi tata kelola lembaga pendidikan, instrumen pengajaran, hingga faktor-faktor non teknis lainnya yang secara langsung dan tidak langsung berkontribusi pada peningkatan kualitas pendidikan. Salah satu unsur penting dalam proses pendidikan adalah guru. Selain berfungsi sebagai media untuk transfer knowledge, guru juga terlibat serta bertanggungjawab dalam pembentukan karakter dan moral peserta didik (Kostogriz, 2019:59). Tugas guru adalah membentuk peserta didik menjadi manusia Indonesia yang seutuhnya, yaitu berakal cerdas dan berbudi pekerti. Oleh karena itu peningkatan kapasitas guru perlu menjadi perhatian baik dari pemerintah maupun institusi yang menaunginya. Kualitas peserta didik tidak akan meningkat tanpa didukung oleh guru yang berkualitas.
