Transforming Refugees

Rather, it seeks to establish that each verifies the other and it seeks to present biomedicine as a mediator of physical realities that gives nation-states justification for domination and control of immigrants and refugees. We will first trace the emergence of the “gaze” in a historical context to its formation as a classificatory concept and mechanism of power relations. Then, we will discuss the central role of cultural citizenship and its impact on the processes of immigration and assimilation.
Asians and Pacific Islanders in Crisis
Scientific Study from the year 2003 in the subject Pedagogy - Science, Theory, Anthropology, grade: A, California State University, Los Angeles, course: Medical Anthropology, language: English, abstract: This paper presents from a theoretical perspective critical analyses of the impact of the lack of health insurance on illness, suffering and death of the Asian and Pacific American population. It addresses critical concerns on the proportions of the uninsured, their demographic characteristics, population growth, disease prevalence, access to care and health outcomes. We engage in findings that illuminate the complex processes involved in disparities in insurance coverage that exist for the uninsured. We limit our discussion in terms of social policy, not so much to minimize the importance of other relevant narratives but to prevent contradiction of certain social and political contexts in which this type of research is situated.
Research Methodology. The Origin and Scope of Thick Ethnography

Ethnography, as a method of empirical data collection is popular in many disciplines and ethnographic approaches to the study of human and social science is the core of social anthropology. This paper presents the ethnographical discourse of Central and Eastern Europe in relation to anthropology and establishes compatibility with research traditions by presenting the literary scholarship of the broader development of this methodology. It is the objectives of this paper to clarify the difference between thick ethnography versus thin ethnography as theory in research methodology and point out how thick ethnography may impact the future of anthropology.
Unemployment and Poverty in Brazil

Although the 1990s and early 2000s showed some economic recovery, raising the expectations that living conditions would be better, conditions have improved very slowly and in some areas worsened. This paper seeks to present an overview of labor market performance in Brazil, how inequality interacts with insufficient income and more specifically its impact and relationship to poverty. It reviews policies and initiatives within a socio-economic context undertaken to address these concerns and the distributional impact of these issues. This paper will also provide analysis of labor trends relative to the challenges of working Brazilian families, issues related to the deterioration of employment conditions, and suggest improvements relative to Brazil’s social, economic and cultural transformation.
Brazil. Settlement, immigration and urbanization

It is an inquiry into various historical developments influencing structure, culture, economics and racial composition on a country level. It also examines trends in early settlement, regions, immigration divided into four distinct periods, and the trajectory of its urban transition. It is possible that the lessons learned from a country that has experienced such a compelling immigration and rapid urbanization could hold keys for other countries currently undergoing this process. It is the intention of this study to provide the basis for such an inquiry.
Racism in Brazil: Inequality in Educational Opportunities and Social Mobility

Project Resilience
As the title suggests, Project Resilience is about making projects and project managers more resilient. It offers a glimpse into our tendencies to be irrational in the face of adversity: risk, uncertainty and complexity. The second purpose is to offer a new perspective to aid in managing risky, and in particular uncertain and complex projects. The authors go beyond commonly-accepted standards in project management with the aim of providing an understanding of how to implement project-wide resilience. The purpose is to guide, not to prescribe. It is best used as a trigger for a thinking process to define your own unique approach to managing uncertainty, not to replace your experience and judgement.
