Joint external evaluation of the International Health Regulations (2005) core capacities of Indonesia

The Joint External Evaluation (JEE) team would like to express its appreciation to Indonesia for volunteering for a second round of JEE. This demonstrates commitment, foresight, and leadership from the highest levels of government, crucial for long-term success in building and sustaining Indonesia’s core capacities under the International Health Regulations (2005) (IHR). The external team commends Indonesia for enhancing health security by implementing IHR through committed leadership, which is of significant importance not just regionally, but also globally. As a large country spread over 17 000 islands, Indonesia’s size, population, and vulnerability to natural disasters, along with its social, economic, and administrative diversity, pose unique challenges to public health. The country has robustly responded to these challenges, taking public health leadership roles both regionally and globally.

DNA Repair, Genetic Instability, and Cancer

This volume describes the elaborate surveillance systems and various DNA repair mechanisms that ensure accurate passage of genetic information onto daughter cells. In particular, it narrates how the cell cycle checkpoint and DNA repair machineries detect and restore DNA damages that are embedded in millions to billions of normal base pairs. The scope of the book ranges from biochemical analyses and structural details of DNA repair proteins, to integrative genomics and population-based studies. It provides a snapshot of current understanding about some of the major DNA repair pathways, including base-excision repair, nucleotide excision repair, mismatch repair, homologous recombination, and n...

This scholarly study of NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center places the institution in social, political, scientific, and technological context. It traces the evolution of Marshall, located in Huntsville, Alabama, from its origins as an Army missile development organization to its status in 1990 as one of the most diversified of NASA's field Centers. Chapters discuss military rocketry programs in Germany and the United States, Apollo-Saturn, Skylab, Space Shuttle, Spacelab, the Space Station and various scientific and technical projects including the Hubble Space Telescope. It sheds light not only on the history of space technology, science, and exploration, but also on the Cold War, federal politics, and complex organizations.
