Man-eating Tigers of Central India brings Ajai Kumar Reddy's remote, roadless Bastar of the 1950s and 60s alive once more. Meandering through secluded villages and sooty campsites, to the sometimes mysterious and otherwise riotous and noisy jungles abuzz with tigers, leopards, pythons as well as their humble prey like deer, wild pigs, and peafowl, this is far more than just a narrative about killing beautiful but deadly tigers. When a mellowing or wounded tiger can no longer hunt other animals, it begins to prey on innocent villagers, sometimes dragging them from their huts at night. Professional hunters, such as Reddy, were then asked to step-in for the rescue act.
Could you ... Live without email for two months? Make do with a ten acre field for a restroom? Drive a tractor out of a ditch? IIM Ganjdundwara is a fictionalized narration of how a large multinational company devised a unique rural initiative. Two young MBAs find themselves in a remote Indian village, and this is their story - an account of the often funny, frequently insightful experiences of city dwellers trying to adjust to rural life, of young men hoping to make a difference, and of one India discovering another. A compelling read, IIM Ganjdundwara highlights the similarities between urban and rural India. It is a story of the hopes, dreams and realities of everyday folk eager to make a difference.
Beyond the immediate, Nand Babu's poetry evolves as a metaphor of social resistance at the cross-section of myths, history and political reality. It is an aesthetic resistance premised on a linguistic sensibility which is inclusive; psychologically engaging, socially responsible and politically conscious. In invoking a multiplicity of responses his poetry invites the reader to participate in and witness the present, thus ensuring a complexity of awareness, necessary for ushering in a progressive future.
Madan Swaroop, a professor of English literature in his fifties, recalls 25 years of his married life on his flight to Kanglung, Bhutan, on a teaching tenure. His beautiful wife is an ardent Krishna devotee a la Mira Bai. She restricts marital sex to once a week, which leads to conflict and comedy. A vivid description of the college campus and the Bhutanese way of life follows. He gets involved with two of his students There are parallel dialogues between the wife and her god and between the husband and his organ. Shades of Calvin and Hobbes! The imagery of cricket for sex creates its own humour. In the midst of human characters, a god's shadowy presence looms over the happenings. A Joycean epiphany at the end caps it all.
Informal, effective undergraduate-level text introduces vibrational and electronic spectroscopy, presenting applications of group theory to the interpretation of UV, visible, and infrared spectra without assuming a high level of background knowledge. 200 problems with solutions. Numerous illustrations. "A uniform and consistent treatment of the subject matter." — Journal of Chemical Education.
This book presents the refereed proceedings of the 5th International Conference on Advanced Machine Learning Technologies and Applications (AMLTA 2020), held at Manipal University Jaipur, India, on February 13 – 15, 2020, and organized in collaboration with the Scientific Research Group in Egypt (SRGE). The papers cover current research in machine learning, big data, Internet of Things, biomedical engineering, fuzzy logic and security, as well as intelligence swarms and optimization.
A comprehensive reference to the use of innovative catalysts and processes to turn biomass into value-added chemicals Chemical Catalysts for Biomass Upgrading offers detailed descriptions of catalysts and catalytic processes employed in the synthesis of chemicals and fuels from the most abundant and important biomass types. The contributors?noted experts on the topic?focus on the application of catalysts to the pyrolysis of whole biomass and to the upgrading of bio-oils. The authors discuss catalytic approaches to the processing of biomass-derived oxygenates, as exemplified by sugars, via reactions such as reforming, hydrogenation, oxidation, and condensation reactions. Additionally, the boo...
This book reviews the fundamental aspects of quinoxaline chemistry: synthesis, reactions, mechanisms, structure, properties, and uses. The first four chapters present a survey of the developments in quinoxaline chemistry since the publication of the monograph on “Condensed Pyrazines” by Cheeseman and Cookson in 1979. These chapters give comprehensive coverage of all the methods of the synthesis of quinoxalines and the important quinoxaline-containing ring systems such as thiazolo[3,4-a]-, pyrrolo[1,2-a]-, and imidazo[1,5-a]quinoxalines. Chapter five describes many new methods for the construction of quinoxaline macrocycles, which are important in applications such as optical devices and materials. The final chapter reviews all previously known rearrangements of heterocyclic systems that lead to benzimidazole derivatives. Mamedov critically analyses these transformations to reveal a novel acid-catalyzed rearrangement of quinoxalinones giving 2-heteroarylbenzimidazoles and 1-heteroarylbenzimidazolones in the presence of nucleophilic reactants (MAMEDOV Heterocycle Rearrangement). This book is of interest to researchers in the fields of heterocyclic and synthetic organic chemistry.
This book contains 35 review articles on nanoscience and nanotechnology that were first published in Nature Nanotechnology, Nature Materials and a number of other Nature journals. The articles are all written by leading authorities in their field and cover a wide range of areas in nanoscience and technology, from basic research (such as single-molecule devices and new materials) through to applications (in, for example, nanomedicine and data storage).
