Stereospecific Polymerization of Isoprene, a doctoral dissertation by Dr. Elena Ceausescu, is a study of the synthesis of cis-l, 4-polyisoprene rubber, an elastomer of synthetic rubber whose structure and properties are similar to that of natural rubber. This elastomer is primarily used in the manufacture of tires, belts, hoses, matting, flooring, dampeners, and other synthetic rubber goods. The book is organized into two parts. Part I, the Ph.D. thesis, focuses on the explanation and exposition of the polymerization reaction; properties of the polymer; and certain theoretical aspects related to the polymer's reaction mechanism and kinetics. Part II presents data derived from an extensive variety of experiments and tests intended to serve as a basis for the industrial production of cis-l, 4-polyisoprene rubber. The text will be an interesting book for materials engineers, industrial engineers, chemists, and science students engaged in the study of polymers.

Dielectric Metamaterials: Fundamentals, Designs, and Applications links fundamental Mie scattering theory with the latest dielectric metamaterial research, providing a valuable reference for new and experienced researchers in the field. The book begins with a historical, evolving overview of Mie scattering theory. Next, the authors describe how to apply Mie theory to analytically solve the scattering of electromagnetic waves by subwavelength particles. Later chapters focus on Mie resonator-based metamaterials, starting with microwaves where particles are much smaller than the free space wavelengths. In addition, several chapters focus on wave-front engineering using dielectric metasurfaces and the nonlinear optical effects, spontaneous emission manipulation, active devices, and 3D effective media using dielectric metamaterials.
Key to Carotenoids
In 1948 Paul Karrer and Ernst Jucker compiled the first comprehensive book on the topic of carotenoids. Their work included a list of 65 natural carotenoids with known and unknown structures. In Otto Isler's 'Carotenoids' which appeared in 1971, Otto Straub published a new and expanded 'List of Natural Carotenoids' comprised of 273 compounds and included all the literature data known at the time. This list proved to be of such value to those working in the field of carote noids that 5 years later Otto Straub came out with an up dated version ofthelist entitled 'Key to Carotenoids'. The present second edition of 'Key to Carotenoids' endeavors to provide the reader with the continuation of Straub's work.
