MOS Integral Circuit Design aims to help in the design of integrated circuits, especially large-scale ones, using MOS Technology through teaching of techniques, practical applications, and examples. The book covers topics such as design equation and process parameters; MOS static and dynamic circuits; logic design techniques, system partitioning, and layout techniques. Also featured are computer aids such as logic simulation and mask layout, as well as examples on simple MOS design. The text is recommended for electrical engineers who would like to know how to use MOS for integral circuit design.

Scientific Information Transfer: The Editor’s Role

It was Faraday who in 1821 said that there are three necessary stages of useful research. The first to begin it, the second to· end it, and the third 1 to publish it. There has since indeed been so much research and publication that we have become increasingly alarmed by the galloping proliferation of scientific information produced in relation to the user's ability to retrieve and consume it effectively, conveniently and creatively. In 1948, to deal with this concern, the Royal Society Scientific Infor 1 mation Conference held in London spanned the whole realm of scientific in formation. Sir Robert Robinson, President of the Royal Society, in his open ing address noted that "the study of s...

The Impact of Space Experiments on Our Knowledge of the Physics of the Universe

Space experiments have opened practically all electromagnetic windows on the Universe. A discussion of the most important results obtained with multi-frequency photonic astrophysics experiments will provide new input to advance our knowledge of physics, very often in its more extreme conditions. A multitude of high quality data across the whole electromagnetic spectrum came at the scientific community's disposal a few years after the beginning of the Space Era. With these data we are attempting to explain the physics governing the Universe and its origin, which continues to be a matter of the greatest curiosity for humanity. In this book we describe the latest steps of the investigations bor...

Progress and Prejudice in Cosmic Ray Physics until 2006

The cosmic radiation is a rain of atomic nuclei and electrons which continuously cross any region of the Milky Way Galaxy, and in particular, the Earth surface. The energies of the cosmic particles range from those of the quiescent matter up to the maximum energies observed in Nature, which presently are about ten thousand times higher than those produced in terrestrial laboratories by the most powerful particle accelerators. In the last years, following the measurements of some experiments, almost all the fundamental ideas and theories on the cosmic radiation recurrent in the literature have been proved to be inadequate to describe the experimental data. This booklet reports a survey of some new ideas and calculations to account for the observed characteristic features of the cosmic radiation along with a critical examination of the experimental data which prompted a scientific revolution in Cosmic Ray Physics.

Computer-Aided Design Techniques

Computer-aided Design Techniques deals with the tools used in computer-aided design, problems associated with software development for design, and techniques applied in the development of the REDAC system. The book covers topics such as program design, requirements of a program for general use, and representation of the circuit in a computer; device modeling, general linear modeling, and linear and non-linear transistor modeling; and non-linear transient analysis. Also covered are topics such as layout capacitances and inductances computation; the use of graphic display as a drawing aid for circuit layout; and the writing of design programs. The text is recommended for engineers and physicists who would like to know how computers can aid them in design, as well as computer experts who aim to write programs intended for design.
