This is a memoir my father wrote about his life growing up in Eastern Kentucky in the early 1900's. It's a story that traces his beginnings as a child in those mountain hills which are incredibly beautiful and at the same time fraught with harsh realities. His childhood is one of extraordinary exploration into the hills of Kentucky along with his insatiable curiosity with the new industries that settle in those mountains. He has a mischievous nature, mixed with innocence as he experiences both the beauty and hardship of what it's like to grow up in that era. This is all poignantly chronicled and when he turns thirteen, he sets out to travel away from his Kentucky home. His transportation is riding the rails to places and experiences far beyond his homeland. He strikes out on his own to go to Texas to become a cowboy. With no real plan or knowledge about how to pursue that dream, he has many misadventures on his path to get there. It reads like an adventure story of a young boy trying to become an adult. It's a tale of redemption and how the grass is not always greener on the other side.

This book examines Davis?s life and art in the context of their colorful, disturbed times. Thirty-six color plates mark his development from social realist to cosmopolitan Parisian expatriate and sophisticated distiller of the American spirit. In the 1920s and 1930s Davis welded the discoveries of the avant-garde school of Paris to the slangy realism of the Yankee Ashcan painters. The resulting style (which he called---with tongue in cheek---?Colonial Cubism?) embodied the rhythm, sass, and ebullience of that most original art form, jazz. Davis made the sound of jazz visible in compositions of hard staccato lines and crisp colors.

In his book, Gonzales provides snapshots of true-life accounts to eloquently describe the world in which he lived from the humble beginnings of his childhood, to his life as a Drug Kingpin, to his transformation in State Prison. He goes into detail of how he perfected the manufacturing and distribution of amphetamines during the mid to late 1980s. His escapades include run-ins with infamous drug lords and mad men of various underground organizations. And of course, he discusses the key people involved in helping him rise from a Latino Texan minion to a convicted Drug Kingpin.
