Angela Jianu explores the lives and activities of a group of Romanian revolutionaries exiled in Paris, London and the Middle East in the aftermath of the insurrections of 1848. Drawing largely on diaries, memoirs and private correspondence, A Circle of Friends is a social history of political exile, presenting the personal life dramas of the protagonists within the wider context of the European post-revolutionary turmoil of the 1850s. Exile and political repression allied this group not only to their Hungarian and Polish peers, but also to French republicans, English radicals and Italian freedom-fighters. Their story reveals the existence of transnational networks of left-wing, radical and republican movements in mid-nineteenth-century Europe against the background of nation-building projects in East-Central Europe.

The work represents a synthesis published and printed in two volumes (the 1st volume in 2002, the second one, in 2004) under the aegis of Mica Valahie Publishing House in Bucharest. Being elaborated on the basis of some documents discovered in the Romanian and foreign archives, the two volumes cover the period up to 1929 in the first volume and the period from 1929 to 2005 in the second one. The paper reveals the role and place of Romanian oil in the evolution of the national and worldwide history, especially during the World War between 1939 and 1945 and in the development of the so-called “cold war”. The book insists upon the prospects of the specific “black gold” evolution.In the addendum there are to be found some interesting documents and the complete bibliography of oil.

Intellectuals and Fascism in Interwar Romania
In 1930s Bucharest, some of the country’s most brilliant young intellectuals converged to form the Criterion Association. Bound by friendship and the dream of a new, modern Romania, their members included historian Mircea Eliade, critic Petru Comarnescu, Jewish playwright Mihail Sebastian and a host of other philosophers and artists. Natural Resource Extraction and Indigenous Livelihoods
This book provides an extended analysis of how resource extraction projects stimulate social, cultural and economic change in indigenous communities. Through a range of case studies, including open cast mining, artisanal mining, logging, deforestation, oil extraction and industrial fishing, the contributors explore the challenges highlighted in global debates on sustainability, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), and climate change. The case studies are used to assess whether and how development processes might compete and conflict with the market objectives of multinational corporations and the organizational and moral principles of indigenous communities. Odată cu deschiderea arhivelor fostei Securităţi, au ieşit la iveală detalii legate de racolarea de către autorităţile vremii a unor persoane cu concepţii radicale de dreapta, între care şi militanţi legionari în exil. Regimul comunist de la Bucureşti ajunsese într-un punct în care legitimarea şi susţinerea pe plan intern şi extern deveniseră priorităţi, iar soluţia era relativ simplă: în ţară trebuia creat un duşman al unităţii naţionale – minoritatea maghiară a devenit rapid o ţintă –, iar în străinătate urmau să fie atraşi reprezentanţi de marcă ai emigraţiei româneşti. Volumul evidenţiază tendinţa xenofobă şi naţionalistă ce a caracterizat perioada cultului personalităţii lui Nicolae Ceauşescu, oferind informaţii inedite despre legionari şi represiunea stalinistă, asasinate şi răzbunări sau lupta partizanilor anticomunişti. Acestora li se adaugă o trecere în revistă a principalelor transformări politice prin care a trecut România din 1990 până în 2015.
