Beginning with volume 41 (1979), the University of Texas Press became the publisher of the Handbook of Latin American Studies, the most comprehensive annual bibliography in the field. Compiled by the Hispanic Division of the Library of Congress and annotated by a corps of more than 130 specialists in various disciplines, the Handbook alternates from year to year between social sciences and humanities. The Handbook annotates works on Mexico, Central America, the Caribbean and the Guianas, Spanish South America, and Brazil, as well as materials covering Latin America as a whole. Most of the subsections are preceded by introductory essays that serve as biannual evaluations of the literature and research under way in specialized areas. The Handbook of Latin American Studies is the oldest continuing reference work in the field. Katherine D. McCann is acting editor for this volume. Este livro busca mostrar alguns aspectos que compõe o mundo da pesca das mulheres, o qual está repleto de movimento e elementos agentes que não apenas o ser humano. Este mundo se constrói e é construído por relações próximas, afetivas e de respeito entre pescadoras e ventos, luas, mar, marés. A vida na pesca não se trata apenas de uma fonte de renda, mas um de modo de ser e estar no mundo em que se observa a maré, se obedece ao vento, se respeita o mar. Mas há também outros elementos centrais, como embarcações, apetrechos, bandeiras e bicicletas, bichos e animais entes queridos. Segundo as pescadoras, é preciso estar atento a duas atitudes centrais para se continuar vivo na pesca a partir da observação contínua: a distração, que pode acabar com a vida de repente e a concentração, que é o que mantem a vida. É neste exercício continuo que as pescadoras se constituem pescadoras e convivem com este mundo da pesca.
