Beginning with volume 41 (1979), the University of Texas Press became the publisher of the Handbook of Latin American Studies, the most comprehensive annual bibliography in the field. Compiled by the Hispanic Division of the Library of Congress and annotated by a corps of more than 130 specialists in various disciplines, the Handbook alternates from year to year between social sciences and humanities. The Handbook annotates works on Mexico, Central America, the Caribbean and the Guianas, Spanish South America, and Brazil, as well as materials covering Latin America as a whole. Most of the subsections are preceded by introductory essays that serve as biannual evaluations of the literature and research under way in specialized areas. A fórmula da paixão de Aby Warburg e sobre ele
Até hoje inéditos no Brasil, estes textos escritos pelo estudioso alemão Aby Warburg, e aqui traduzidos, têm em comum as referências à imprensa e à Primeira Guerra Mundial, sob a égide da qual os três foram escritos. Tais textos expressam a visão que ele tinha da imprensa, como instru¬mento de propaganda, de disputa de visões, o front de uma batalha dispu¬tada em palavras e imagens, semelhante ao que identificara nas guerras religiosas no tempo de Lutero. Warburg também revela sua visão de que os textos jornalísticos devem ser analisados no conjunto da edição em que são publicados, pois, se tirados desse contexto, parte funda¬mental de sua expressão fica comprometida. Neste caso, cem anos depois, sua visão pode ser usada para entender a desinformação que decorre do frequente consumo de textos de imprensa em redes sociais, deslocados do ambiente jornalístico em que foram publicados originalmente.
