An overview of farm-to-fork safety in the preharvest realm Foodborne outbreaks continue to take lives and harm economies, making controlling the entry of pathogens into the food supply a priority. Preharvest factors have been the cause of numerous outbreaks, including Listeria in melons, Salmonella associated with tomatoes, and Shiga toxin-producing E.coli in beef products, yet most traditional control measures and regulations occur at the postharvest stage. Preharvest Food Safety covers a broad swath of knowledge surrounding topics of safety at the preharvest and harvest stages, focusing on problems for specific food sources and food pathogens, as well as new tools and potential solutions. ...
Plants, marine organisms, and microorganisms have evolved complex chemical defense and signaling systems that are designed to protect them from predators and provide other biological benefits. These organisms thus produce substances containing novel chemotypes that may have beneficial effects for humans. As collection methods improve and new screen
Lianas are woody vines that were the focus of intense study by early ecologists, such as Darwin, who devoted an entire book to the natural history of climbing plants. Over the past quarter century, there has been a resurgence in the study of lianas, and liana are again recognized as important components of many forests, particularly in the tropics. The increasing amount of research on lianas has resulted in a fundamentally deeper understanding of liana ecology, evolution, and life-history, as well as the myriad roles lianas play in forest dynamics and functioning. This book provides insight into the ecology and evolution of lianas, their anatomy, physiology, and natural history, their global abundance and distribution, and their wide-ranging effects on the myriad organisms that inhabit tropical and temperate forests.
A growing body of evidence from economic studies shows areas where appropriate policies can generate health and other benefits at an affordable cost, sometimes reducing health expenditure and helping to redress health inequalities at the same time.

WCQR2021 featured four main application fields (Education, Health, Social Sciences, and Engineering/Technology) and seven main subjects: Rationale and Paradigms of Qualitative Research; Systematization of Approaches with Qualitative Studies; Qualitative and Mixed Methods Research; Data Analysis Types; Innovative Processes of Qualitative Data Analysis; Qualitative Research in Web Context; Qualitative Analysis with Software Support. The book is a valuable resource for everyone interested in qualitative research, emphasizing Computer-Assisted Qualitative Data Analysis Software (CAQDAS).
In 2010 the inaugural U.S. Joint Strategic Plan on Intellectual Property Enforcement (Strategy) was issued. It was developed as a result of public input and the efforts of Fed. agencies. The Strategy included 33 action items to improve intellectual property enforcement, falling into six categories. This report shows how the U.S. Gov't. has implemented the action items and taken steps to improve enforcement, in order to grow the U.S. economy; create jobs and support U.S. exports; promote innovation and the security of America's comparative advantage in the global economy; protect consumer trust and safety; protect national and economic security; and validate rights protected under our Constitution. A Concise, Symptom-Based Textbook for Diagnosis and Decision Making in Clinical Practice Over the past twenty years, thousands of physicians have come to depend on Yamada’s Textbook of Gastroenterology. Its encyclopaedic discussion of the basic science underlying gastrointestinal and liver diseases as well as the many diagnostic and therapeutic modalities available to the patients who suffer from them was—and still is—beyond compare. This new textbook, Principles of Clinical Gastroenterology, is designed to inform practitioners on the features of the major clinical disorders in gastroenterology and hepatology from the point of view of the clinician observing signs and symptoms of a pat...
