Depression and Women
In her newest book, Simonds presents "Integrative Relational Therapy," her unique nonpathologizing approach to psychotherapy with depressed women. IRT integrates empirically-supported therapies, feminist theories of depression, creative arts therapies, and mindfulness-based techniques into a cohesive model that addresses the gender and cultural factors contributing to women's depression. The book also addresses relapse prevention, reproductive-related events, special medication issues for women, and the latest research on alternative remedies. A unique feature of the book includes three conceptual maps that guide the therapist throughout the course of therapy, weaving a common thread while allowing for the individuality of each client. A list of integrative resources and recommended readings in feminist therapy, alternative therapies, and holistic approaches to the treatment of depression, anxiety, and women's reproductive-related events are also included.

The goal of biomedical research on aging is to prolong the useful and active lives of the elderly and to raise the quality of their lives. That can be accomplished if we understand the normal process of aging, the nature of diseases common to the aged, and the sources of and remedies for many of the painful disabilities suffered by the aged. The major systems within the body fail at different rates, depending upon the inherited characteristics and environmental experiences of the individual. One goal of biomedical research is to characterize, for the various organ systems of the body, the progressive loss of functions with age. Biomedical research on aging can be divided into three major areas: basic biological aspects of aging, the interaction of aging and disease, and the interaction of external, or environmental, influences and aging. Important elements in research on aging include: experimental model systems, the study of human populations, studies of alteration of life span, and resources and training needs.

Latin American Women On/In Stages

Theorising and Representing Maternal Realities
Maternal research is a rapidly expanding, multi-disciplinary form of scholarship. Prior to second wave feminism most motherhood literature was written from a male perspective. This literature focused on telling mothers how to practice mothering without acknowledging the expertise of the mothers themselves. Research on motherhood as it is experienced in all its facets by mothers has only emerged in recent decades. This book is aimed at expanding academic knowledge of motherhood, from a feminist perspective, looking particularly at how maternal subjectivities can be represented and theorised. When mothers themselves (academic or not) are responsible for theorisation and representation of maternal ‘realities’, dominant theories and representations of motherhood are radically challenged. In Theorising and Representing Maternal Realities the contributors argue that it is no longer acceptable to regard mothers as mere objects of knowledge and research. They are primarily the subjects of knowledge and research.
Women's Health Needs In Patient Education
The goal of this book is to fill the many gaps that health care providers face when helping women learn self care and prevention skills. Special attention is paid to minority status, low literacy, and elderly women who may have fewer opportunities to find health information independently.
