Os textos aqui reunidos, no terceiro volume da série Perspectivas da Sociologia no Brasil, apresentam reflexões sobre Lélia Gonzalez (1935-1994), Paulo Prado (1869-1943), Heleieth Saffioti (1934-2010), Suely Kofes (-), Ronaldo George Helal (1956-). Longe de cobrir a amplitude da produção da Sociologia Brasileira as autoras e autores presentes neste terceiro volume, todavia, são representativas de diferentes momentos, de diferentes posicionamentos no interior do campo sociológico. Ao se optar por tal caminho, o desejo é o de oferecer ao leitor e à leitora uma dimensão da pluralidade da produção sociológica brasileira, as múltiplas vertentes da Sociologia brasileira, sem nenhuma pretensão de esgotar o tema. A unidade dos textos reunidos aqui está no esforço de trazer elementos fundamentais da Sociologia das diferentes autoras e autores, seja enfocando aspectos da obra sociológica por elas produzida, seja oferecendo um panorama de suas preocupações. Neuroacanthocytosis Syndromes
Neuroacanthocytosis Syndromes is the first comprehensive review of a field that has not yet received the attention it deserves. Affecting the brain as well as the circulating red cells, these multi-system disorders in the past had often been mistaken for Huntington's disease. Recent breakthroughs have now identified the molecular basis of several of these. This volume grew out of the first international scientific meeting ever devoted to neuroacanthocytosis and provides in-depth information about the state of the art. Its thirty chapters were written by the leading authorities in the field to cover the clinical as well as the basic science perspective, including not only molecular genetics but also experimental pharmacology and cell membrane biology, among others. The book vehemently poses the question of how the membrane deformation of circulating red blood cells relates to degeneration of nerve cells in the brain, the basal ganglia, in particular.
