Epsilon is a wolf in Yellowstone National Park. He was born there. When he was only a yearling, Epsilon lost his parents in a fight between rival wolf packs. Epsilon, his brother, and his sister escaped, but they had to survive on their own. They learned how to hunt. They grew up. They formed a strong new pack of wolves, and Epsilon became its leader. Beautifully illustrated, Epsilon is an entertaining and educational story about wolves in Yellowstone National Park.
This Element introduces the exotic wave phenomena arising from the extremely small optical refractive index, and sheds light on the underlying mechanisms, with a primary focus on the basic concepts and fundamental wave physics. The authors reveal the exciting applications of ENZ metamaterials, which have profound impacts over a wide range of fields of science and technology. The sections are organized as follows: in Section 2, the authors demonstrate the extraordinary wave properties in ENZ metamaterials, analyzing the unique wave dynamics and the resulting effects. Section 3 is dedicated to introducing various realization methods of the ENZ metamaterials with periodic and non-periodic styles. The applications of ENZ metamaterials are discussed in Sections 4 and 5, from the perspectives of microwave engineering, optics, and quantum physics. The authors close in Section 6 by presenting an outlook on the development of ENZ metamaterials and discussing the key challenges addressed in future works.
The Epsilon Papers are a fast-moving mixture of time-travel, politics and murder. At the heart of the story is Doctor Chau Li, an MIT research scientist who was the first to recognize Epsilon as a conduit for time-travel. Two other key characters are Thomas Scott, the Independent Senate Majority Leader from New York, and Senator Manny Ogden, code-named SOTUS. Leader Scott is deep in debt and creates an elaborate plan to embezzle a small fortune from the poorly managed discovery. Is Epsilon the real thing, or just another toy? SOTUS was sent to find the answer. Imagine the thrill of being in the presence of history’s giants. Men like George Armstrong Custer, Adolph Hitler, Sitting Bull or W...

In 2007 Terry Tao began a mathematical blog to cover a variety of topics, ranging from his own research and other recent developments in mathematics, to lecture notes for his classes, to nontechnical puzzles and expository articles. The first two years of the blog have already been published by the American Mathematical Society. The posts from the third year are being published in two volumes. The present volume consists of a second course in real analysis, together with related material from the blog. The real analysis course assumes some familiarity with general measure theory, as well as fundamental notions from undergraduate analysis. The text then covers more advanced topics in measure ...
