Module Fourteen - Retailing

In an effort to overcome the perception of a seat as a commodity, and to increase yields and loyalty, a key initiative in the passenger transportation community is the introduction of branded products with their associated privileges. In addition to the different fare conditions for each branded product, there are different travel experiences, baggage entitlements, cabin information, and loyalty rewards. Ancillary revenue product and service experimentation are evolving as we move forward. Passenger carriers all over the world are adding optional extras such as pre-paid baggage, early boarding, assigned seating, and pre-order meals. A la carte is at the opposite end of the spectrum from methods that bundle amenities using distinct price points. Allowing consumers to click and choose their way through the booking process is a favourite practice among low-cost carriers and a growing number of traditional carriers. It’s one of the easier implementation choices because it merely adds optional extras to a carrier’s existing fare structure.

Paladin

Paladin is the conclusion of The Interregnum Series (Book 7), continuing its account of Hibernia's royalty from 1473 to date. After being discharged, half-burned and lacking memories, Lilian Morgan emerges at the Dublin City Dump. She knows only that she must keep the repentant Cain (Samadeya) on task with his millennia-old assignment of thwarting the enemy Pelik--alternate and unrepentant continuation of Cain--in his agenda of death and destruction. Discipline is swift and brutal when she departs from the mission. Lilian also shares one of the Cain curses: returning after death to some reorganised portion of her body. Paladin also completes The Throne Series (Book 4), re-telling in interleaved chapters the First Battle of Glenmorgan and the destruction of Manse Devereaux. Interregnum characters approach a new battle at Glenmorgan that will decide the outcome of Tara's civil war. Conflict and treachery at Tara threaten one Earth civilization with extinction. Pelik schemes for power over two other worlds...and springs a trap.

Selling Seattle

Starbucks, Microsoft, Amazon.com, World Trade Organisation, grunge music - all concepts that have now become synonymous with Seattle. Selling Seattle: Representing Contemporary Urban America is the first book to examine the impact of Seattle on contemporary culture and to account for the city's rapid rise to fame and influence since the early 1990s. Interdisciplinary in approach - broaching current debates from urban geography and interrogations of economic and cultural globalisation to cinema and media studies - this volume looks closely at the city's representation on film and television as well as in journalism and literature, and also considers the ways in which famous Seattle brands such as Microsoft, Starbucks and grunge worked to establish the city as a symbol of urban desire and fantasy in recent years. Selling Seattle is required reading for anyone who seeks to understand the contemporary American city, and the powerful trends that shape the urban landscape and its place in the popular imagination.
