This book is a must read for all who are interested in Catalonia and European security. It explains why the Puigdemont government failed to gain independence with the unilateral declaration 27 October 2017. It explains why the European political elites have turned their backs on Carles Puigdemont. The international media has been overly biased for the pro-independentists in the Spanish region of Catalonia. This is in stark contrast to the reactions from major international leaders and organizations. The international media have failed to research the issue and inform the public. The media have failed to understand the way to conflict the pro-independentists have applied since 1975 when Gener...

Nikolay Vladislavovich Bessonov was born in 1962 in Moscow. He has a higher art education (MVHPU). Bessonov painted wonderful, romantic paintings of Roma (Gypsies). Roma in art is a different story altogether, a subject we hope to take up later. Another line of his paintings was for a book about Medieval witch persecution, with gruesome pictures of mostly beautiful women coming into trouble. The authors came into contact with Bessonov in connection with an exhibition of Roma Art and Culture. in 1997 in Denmark. Please accept this little booklet for what it is and with all its limitations. We have long wanted to do it for obvious reasons as Bessonov was very talented artist and a great friend of Roma. The booklet is produced from the images we got from him in curating the exhibition. We have some more images in a box somewhere in storage, so this booklet may see a second edition.

Christkindelsmärik is the Alsatian dialect name of the Christmas market in Strasbourg, held annually on the square in front of the Strasbourg Cathedral since 1570. After threats of a terror attack security was increased and all references to Christianity like the Nativity removed. A terror attack still took place 11 December 2018. Strasbourg is host to the largest Islamic mosque in France. There are 11,000 Islamists on the watch list in France and the threat of new terror attacks is always present. However, people flock to the Christmas Market in Strasbourg as before with 3 million visitors, and the Medieval city is beautifully decorated. The merchants do everything they can to make the visitors happy.

American National Guard

The first muster of militia forces in what is today the United States took place on September 16, 1565, in the newly established Spanish military town of St. Augustine. The militia men were assigned to guard the expedition's supplies while their leader, Pedro Menéndez de Avilés, took the regular troops north to attack the French settlement at Fort Caroline on the St. Johns River. The majority of the National Guard is a state based militia under the control of the governor. National Guard soldiers and airmen hold a civilian job full-time while serving part-time as a National Guard member. We honor the National Guard on 4th of July and Memorial Day and hope you will enjoy our selection of photos.

Hokusai 53 Stations of the Tōkaidō 1801

  • Categories: Art

Hokusai’s 53 Stations of the Tōkaidō 1801 is something completely different! It is his first. It is different from his famous 36 Views of Mt Fuji, which are sublime artistic expressions distilling a long life’s work. It is different from much of Hokusai’s other well known work, like his 100 Views of Mt Fuji. But in that series Hokusai still retained a lot of the humor and the caricature found here. It is different from the many other well known 53 Stations of the Tōkaidō in that Hokusai does not focus on the landscape and the markers that Hiroshige and others showed. Instead Hokusai focus on the events, the interactions between the travellers, the tales that you will share with your friends when you get back home. It was a great and earlier contribution to the Tōkaidō literature.
