Published for 010 Publisher's twentieth anniversary in 2003, this volume celebrates the publishing vision of Hans Oldewarris and Peter de Winter, 010's founders. Besides hundreds of monographs by and about Dutch architects, 010 has published books on architecture, interior design, photography, industrial design, graphic design and the visual arts. Exhaustively annotated and illustrated, 20 Years 010 provides not only the technical details of each book (size, format, binding) but also the authors, editors, photographers, graphic designers and printers. State of Mind, the lavishly illustrated companion book to the exhibition of the same name, investigates California’s vital contributions to Conceptual art—in particular, work that emerged in the late 1960s among scattered groups of young artists. The essays reveal connections between the northern and southern California Conceptual art scenes and argue that Conceptualism’s experimental practices and an array of then-new media—performance, site-specific installations, film and video, mail art, and artists’ publications—continue to exert an enormous influence on the artists working today.

Art and Politics During the Cold War
Drawing on thousands of historical documents from Polish and Dutch archives, this book explores Cold War cultural exchange between so-called ‘smaller powers’ of this global conflict, which thus far has been predominately explored from the perspective of the two superpowers or more pivotal countries. By looking at how cultural, artistic and scholarly relations were developed between Poland and the Netherlands, Michał Wenderski sheds new light on the history of the Cultural Cold War that was not always orchestrated solely by its main players. Less pivotal states – for example, Poland and the Netherlands – likewise intentionally created their international cultural policies and shaped their cultural exchange with countries from the other side of the Iron Curtain. This study reconstructs these policies and identifies the varying factors that influenced them – both official and less formal. The book will be of interest to scholars working in art history, history of the Cold War, post-war European history, international cultural relations, Dutch studies and Polish studies.

An art collector who was a patient at the Amsterdam Medical Center once expressed his gratitude with a donation of several works of art, the seed for the extraordinary modern art collection that now flourishes at the Amsterdam Medical Center. Since it began seriously cultivating its art collection in the 1980s, the Center has amassed approximately 5,000 works by Dutch and Dutch-resident artists. The Amsterdam Medical Center Art Book is an extraordinary showcase of the Center’s rich and diverse collection, which focuses on Dutch art from the 1950s through the 1970s. Bas Jan Ader
On July 9, 1975, Dutch-born artist Bas Jan Ader set sail from Chatham, Massachusetts, on a thirteen-foot sailboat. He was bound for Falmouth, England, on the second leg of a three-part piece titled In Search of the Miraculous. The damaged boat was found south of the western tip of Ireland nearly a year later. Ader was never seen again. Since his untimely death, Ader has achieved mythic status in the art world as a figure literally willing to die for his art.
