Horizons of Combinatorics
Hungarian mathematics has always been known for discrete mathematics, including combinatorial number theory, set theory and recently random structures, and combinatorial geometry. The recent volume contains high level surveys on these topics with authors mostly being invited speakers for the conference "Horizons of Combinatorics" held in Balatonalmadi, Hungary in 2006. The collection gives an overview of recent trends and results in a large part of combinatorics and related topics.
Contests in Higher Mathematics
One of the most effective ways to stimulate students to enjoy intellectual efforts is the scientific competition. In 1894 the Hungarian Mathematical and Physical Society introduced a mathematical competition for high school students. The success of high school competitions led the Mathematical Society to found a college level contest, named after Miklós Schweitzer. The problems of the Schweitzer Contests are proposed and selected by the most prominent Hungarian mathematicians. This book collects the problems posed in the contests between 1962 and 1991 which range from algebra, combinatorics, theory of functions, geometry, measure theory, number theory, operator theory, probability theory, topology, to set theory. The second part contains the solutions. The Schweitzer competition is one of the most unique in the world. The experience shows that this competition helps to identify research talents. This collection of problems and solutions in several fields in mathematics can serve as a guide for many undergraduates and young mathematicians. The large variety of research level problems might be of interest for more mature mathematicians and historians of mathematics as well.

This volume collects together research and survey papers written by invited speakers of the conference celebrating the 70th birthday of László Lovász. A Tribute to Paul Erdos
This volume is dedicated to Paul Erdos, who profoundly influenced mathematics in the twentieth century, with over 1200 papers in number theory, complex analysis, probability theory, geometry, interpretation theory, algebra set theory and combinatorics. One of Erdos' hallmarks was the host of stimulating problems and conjectures, to many of which he attached monetary prices, in accordance with their notoriety. In subvolume 27C1 magnetic and related properties of binary lanthanide oxides have been compiled. This subvolume covers data obtained since 1980 and can therefore be regarded as supplement to volume III/12c. While in the previous volume the majority of magnetic data was obtained either from magnetometric measurements or from neutron diffraction, for the present data the main emphasis is devoted to 'related' properties without which, however, the understanding of classical magnetic properties is impossible. A second part 27C2 will deal with binary oxides of the actinide elements.
