The International Interdisciplinary Studies Seminar (IISS) is an annual scientific conference that provides a unique platform for scientists, researchers, and professionals across multiple disciplines to share their research advancements and critical ideas to address the social sciences issues (Social capacity for environmental protection, community-driven environmental management). The conference was initiated 12 years ago by recognising that social problems require an interdisciplinary approach to reach a holistic solution. We proudly present the proceedings of 1st International Seminar on Cultural Sciences 2020 (ISCS 2020). It focuses on the relation of gender, indigenous people, environment, religion, etc. The issue of culture and development is important today, especially in the time of Covid-19, not only globally, but also Indonesia nationally to the local level. There are several important issues relating to this, both institutionally and the relationships between individuals and groups in supporting the agenda of sustainable development. More than 75 manuscripts were presented at this conference with around 33 of them selected to be published in proceedings. We hope by this conference, discussions on the importance of culture and development will increasingly become an important concern together and bring better response from the government and social relations for development.

Buku ESP-based Contextual Veterinary adalah buku pegangan untuk belajar Bahasa Inggris bagi mahasiswa veteriner. Buku ini terdiri dari 7 (tujuh) bab dari tujuh teks berbasis permasalahan veteriner yang meliputi pemahaman tentang sel hewan, pentingnya memelihara ternak dan perlunya memahami kesehatan hewan, perilaku hewan, produktifitas hewan ternak, kesejahteraan hewan ternak serta bagaimana mendapatkan sertifikat halal untuk penyembelihan hewan ternak. Teks teks tersebut dijabarkan dalam latihan soal yang meliputi pemahaman bacaan, pemahaman kosakata veteriner , tata bahasa Inggris untuk penulisan berbahasa Inggris. Selain itu latihan percakapan dan diskusi di bidang veteriner juga disajikan dalam sebuah studi kasus baik pairs-activities maupun topik diskusi secara berkelompok dengan pemilihan topik topik diskusi yang menarik.
Mengapa Kita Perlu Membaca Kritis? Entah itu kita sadari atau tidak, banyak di antara kita pada saat membaca teks cenderung hanya ingin mengetahui suatu hal, kabar terbaru, pendapat ahli, atau sebuah teori dan kemudian menghapalnya untuk keperluan persiapan ujian atau untuk keperluan lain lalu semua informasi itu lewat begitu saja. Dengan demikian, kita hanya fokus untuk mencari informasi apa yang tertulis di dalam teks dan tidak memperhatikan secara detail dan kritis pesan apa yang sebenarnya tersurat dan tersirat dalam teks. Padahal jika kita membacanya secara kritis, banyak hal atau informasi yang dapat kita peroleh dan diambil manfaatnya. Apakah Membaca Kritis Itu? Dalam konteks membaca kritis, pembaca bersama-sama penulis akan berpikir tentang perihal atau masalah yang terkandung di dalam teks dan tidak sekedar menyerap apa yang ada. Membaca secara kritis berarti kita harus mampu membaca secara analisis dengan melakukan penilaian. Dalam membaca kritis diharapkan seolah-olah ada interaksi langsung antara pembaca dengan penulis sehingga pembaca merasa terjawab atas permasalahan yang sedang dihadapi.
