New Perspectives on Romance Linguistics: Morphology, syntax, semantics and pragmatics
This is the first of two volumes emanating from the Linguistic Symposium on Romance Languages held at the University of Texas at Austin in February 2005. It features the keynote address delivered by Denis Bouchard on exaptation and linguistic explanation, as well as seventeen contributions by emerging and internationally recognized scholars of Spanish, French, Italian, as well as Rumanian. While the emphasis bears on formal analyses, the coverage is remarkably broad, as topics range from morphology, syntax, semantics, pragmatics and language acquisition. Perceptions of Dominican Spanish and Dominican Self-perception in the Puerto Rican Diaspora
The aim of the present project is to investigate the possible consequences of social prejudice on the perception of and attitudes towards minority language varieties and their speakers. A further goal is to examine the possible emergence of linguistic insecurity among émigrés as compared to those remaining in their native country. An ideal setting for this investigation can be found in Puerto Rico. Selected Proceedings of the 9th Hispanic Linguistics Symposium
