Environmental Health

It took a long time for humans to recognize the existence of a direct link between environmental pollution and health deterioration. In the 1990s, scientists demonstrated the existence of this link through epidemiological studies and new technical materials that can measure accumulation effects of small toxic quantities. Consequently, concerns about human health were accentuated, and the notion of environmental health has emerged. This book covers some practices for managing, controlling, and preventing environmental factors that may affect current and future generations' health. Topics relate to either the natural or the built environment and include air and water pollution, rainwater harvesting, climate change effects, marine pollution, and ecological indicators.

Postcolonializing God

Postcolonializing God examines how African Christianity especially as a practical spirituality can be truly a postcolonial reality. The book offers thoughts as to how African Christians and by that token others who were colonial subjects, may practice a spirituality that bears the hallmarks of their authentic cultural heritage, even if that makes them distinctly different from Christians from the colonizing nations. There are themes in both the Hebrew Bible and the Christian Scriptures in which God's activities result in shattering hegemony, overthrowing the powerful, diversifying communities and affirming pluralism. These have by and large been ignored or downplayed in the formation of Chri...

Fear tells you, “I want to make you safe.” Love says, “you are safe.” Fear would walk you on a narrow path. Love says, “open your arms and fly with me.” —Emmanuel Emmanuel’s great wisdom—coming to us through channel Pat Rodegast—has illuminated thousands of lives. Emmanuel’s Book revealed deeply enriching truths about our place in the cosmos and the evolutionary destiny of the human soul. Now Emmanuel shines his light on the limitless power of love—and the prison house of fear. With startling directness and gentle wit, he confronts ageless questions such as “Why am I here?” and contemporary questions such as “How can we help the homeless?” Whether we struggle with personal confusion and pain or with the dilemmas of a troubled world, this wonderful new collection brings us singular comfort, assurance, and encouragement on our way to wholeness.

“We’ve spent nine trillion dollars bombing the Middle East like mad. We’ve sown death there, including our own. And what has it gotten us? Nothing.” Donald Trump, November 1, 2024. The figure of the devil has haunted our collective consciousness since the dawn of time. He structures our societies, whether religious or secular. Sometimes, the devil has been a friend before being “demonized”. Sometimes, by force of circumstance, he has become an ally. And sometimes, the devil must be eliminated to mask or even justify the errors of our societies. Thus, during the Second World War, we made a pact with Stalin to bring down a devil deemed more formidable: Hitler. In Northern Ireland, ...

Existential Theology

Existential Theology: An Introduction offers a formalized and comprehensive examination of the field of existential theology, in order to distinguish it as a unique field of study and view it as a measured synthesis of the concerns of Christian existentialism, Christian humanism, and Christian philosophy with the preoccupations of proper existentialism and a series of unfolding themes from Augustine to Kierkegaard. To do this, Existential Theology attends to the field through the exploration of genres: the European traditions in French, Russian, and German schools of thought, counter-traditions in liberation, feminist, and womanist approaches, and postmodern traditions located in anthropolog...

Reformation in Britain and Ireland

The study of the Reformation in England and Wales, Ireland and Scotland has usually been treated by historians as a series of discrete national stories. Reformation in Britain and Ireland draws upon the growing genre of writing about British History to construct an innovative narrative of religious change in the four countries/three kingdoms. The text uses a broadly chronological framework to consider the strengths and weaknesses of the pre-Reformation churches; the political crises of the break with Rome; the development of Protestantism and changes in popular religious culture. The tools of conversion - the Bible, preaching and catechising - are accorded specific attention, as is doctrinal change. It is argued that political calculations did most to determine the success or failure of reformation, though the ideological commitment of a clerical elite was also of central significance.
