Contemporary Trends In Algebraic Geometry And Algebraic Topology

The Wei-Liang Chow and Kuo-Tsai Chen Memorial Conference was proposed and held by Prof S S Chern in Nankai Institute of Mathematics. It was devoted to memorializing those two outstanding and original Chinese mathematicians who had made significant contributions to algebraic geometry and algebraic topology, respectively. It also provided a forum for leading mathematicians to expound and discuss their views on new ideas in these fields, as well as trends in 21st Century mathematics. About 100 mathematicians participated in the conference, including Sir Michael Atiyah, Jacob Palis, Phillip Griffiths, David Eisenbud, Philippe Tondeur, Yujiro Kawamata, Tian Gang, etc. This invaluable volume contains the selected papers presented at the conference. The topics include canonical maps of Gorenstein 3-folds, fundamental groups of algebraic curves, Chen's interated integrals, algebraic fiber spaces, and others.

The Legacy of Niels Henrik Abel

A unique series of fascinating research papers on subjects related to the work of Niels Henrik Abel, written by some of the foremost specialists in their fields. Some of the authors have been specifically invited to present papers, discussing the influence of Abel in a mathematical-historical context. Others have submitted papers presented at the Abel Bicentennial Conference, Oslo June 3-8, 2002. The idea behind the book has been to produce a text covering a substantial part of the legacy of Abel, as perceived at the beginning of the 21st century.

Algebraic Geometry: Hirzebruch 70

This book presents the proceedings from the conference on algebraic geometry in honor of Professor Friedrich Hirzebruch's 70th Birthday. The event was held at the Stefan Banach International Mathematical Center in Warsaw (Poland). Topics covered in the book include intersection theory, singularities, low-dimensional manifolds, moduli spaces, number theory, and interactions between mathematical physics and geometry. Also included are articles from notes of two special lectures. The first, by Professor M. Atiyah, describes the important contributions to the field of geometry by Professor Hirzebruch. The second article contains notes from the talk delivered at the conference by Professor Hirzebruch. Contributors to the volume are leading researchers in the field.

The Art of Doing Algebraic Geometry

This volume is dedicated to Ciro Ciliberto on the occasion of his 70th birthday and contains refereed papers, offering an overview of important parts of current research in algebraic geometry and related research in the history of mathematics. It presents original research as well as surveys, both providing a valuable overview of the current state of the art of the covered topics and reflecting the versatility of the scientific interests of Ciro Ciliberto.

The Beilinson Complex and Canonical Rings of Irregular Surfaces

An important theorem by Beilinson describes the bounded derived category of coherent sheaves on $\mathbb{P n$, yielding in particular a resolution of every coherent sheaf on $\mathbb{P n$ in terms of the vector bundles $\Omega {\mathbb{P n j(j)$ for $0\le j\le n$. This theorem is here extended to weighted projective spaces. To this purpose we consider, instead of the usual category of coherent sheaves on $\mathbb{P ({\rm w )$ (the weighted projective space of weights $\rm w=({\rm w 0,\dots,{\rm w n)$), a suitable category of graded coherent sheaves (the two categories are equivalent if and only if ${\rm w 0=\cdots={\rm w n=1$, i.e. $\mathbb{P ({\rm w )= \mathbb{P n$), obtained by endowing $\...
