Siyavush of Our Century
"Siyavush of Our Century" was written by political visionary Mammad Amin Rasulzadeh (1884-1955) who headed the Musavat Party and helped set up the Azerbaijan parliamentary democratic republic in 1918, the first such republic of Turks and Muslims in the eastern world. The turmoil of the times, however, proved too much for Rasulzadeh's young government. On April 25, 1920, Bolshevik troops crossed into Azerbaijan and entered Baku on April 28. They demanded the resignation of Azerbaijan's Parliament and set up their own government. The fledgling democracy, in only its 23rd month, collapsed immediately. Azerbaijan remained under communist rule until the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991. "Siyavush of Our Century" is a unique work of politics & history, philosophy & literature founded upon the ancient myths and legends of the Turkik peoples. It was written in July 1920 and first published in Istanbul in 1925. It is widely recognised as a classic by the people of Azerbaijan.
The Sunni Path
The beginning of (The Sunni Path), the book by a statesman of the Ottoman Empire Ahmet Cevdet Pasha (Ma’lûmat-ı Nâfia = Beneficial Information), gives a succinct information about how to believe in the religion of Islam and makes the classification of the science of Islam. Imâm-ı Gazâli, one of the greatest savants of Islam, briefly explains the explanations of Ahl-i-sunnat savants of the true religion of Islam preached by Muhammad ׳alayhissalâm. In addition to this, the life of Imâm-ı A’zam Ebû Hanifa, a great Ahl-i-sunnat savant, is summarized in the book (The Sunni Path). From Mycenae to Homer
This book, first published in 1958, aims to describe Greek art and poetry within this ambiguous period of ancient history (often referred to as the Greek ‘Dark Ages’), and to explore the possibilities of learning about Mycenaean civilisation from its own documents and not only from archaeology. Specifically, Webster utilises Michael Ventris’ decipherment of Linear B in 1952 – which proved that Greek was spoken in the Mycenaean world – to determine the general contours of aesthetic development from Mycenae to the time of the written composition of the Homeric epics. Because they record Mycenaean civilisation in Mycenaean terminology, while Homer was writing in Ionian Greek at the beginning of the polis civilisation, they show how much in Homer is in fact Mycenaean. Further, where it is clear that these Mycenaean elements cannot have survived until Homer’s time, they tell us something about the poetry which connected the two.
