The volume of proceedings of the Xth International Seminar on High Energy Physics, Relativistic Nuclear Physics and Quantum Chromodynamics brings together reports from the major experimental collaborations at JINR, Fermilab, Brookhaven, SATURNE, Orsay, GSI Darmstadt, Riken Cyclotron Lab. KEK, SLAC, Novosibirsk, MIT Bates, IHEP USSR and summaries of the major theoretical and experimental advances made in relativistic and nuclear physics over the last two years. The focus of the volume is upon relativistic nuclear physics, but the coverage of topics is sufficiently comprehensive to include many important results of cumulative reactions, polarization phenomena in nuclear physics, non nucleon degrees of freedom in nuclei.
The second International Symposium on Quantum Fluids and Solids came to pass during 23-27 Jan. 1977 as the fourth and con cluding part of the seventeenth consecutive running of the Sanibel Symposium Series. With approximately 120 participants from eleven countries (including, for the first time, the USSR), we found it easy to obtain a selection of papers which was fairly comprehen sive. Indeed, our problem was an embarrassment of riches; in spite of our solemn vows not to crowd the schedule, we ended up with an intense program! The idea of this symposium grew out of our discussions on the need to review the advances that had been made in the theoretical description of inelastic scattering reactions in the last few years. Since a microscopic description of inelastic scattering uses realistic effective interactions, we felt that it was appropriate to begin such a summary with a discussion of the free two-nucleon force. Each summer, the Theoretical Physics Division of the Canadian Association of Physicists organizes a summer institute of two weeks duration on a current topic in theoretical physics. This volume contains the lectures from the Pacific Summer Institute held at Pearson College on Vancouver Island, B. C. (Canada) from August 23 to September 3, 1982. The Institute was titled "Progress in Nuclear Dynamics: Short-Distance Behavior in the Nucleus".
