Power system modelling and scripting is a quite general and ambitious title. Of course, to embrace all existing aspects of power system modelling would lead to an encyclopedia and would be likely an impossible task. Thus, the book focuses on a subset of power system models based on the following assumptions: (i) devices are modelled as a set of nonlinear differential algebraic equations, (ii) all alternate-current devices are operating in three-phase balanced fundamental frequency, and (iii) the time frame of the dynamics of interest ranges from tenths to tens of seconds. These assumptions basically restrict the analysis to transient stability phenomena and generator controls. The modelling ...
In Italy, the powerful Borromeo family of Milan have long been held up as a rare example of paternalist aristocrats who withstood the temptations of self-enrichment so many of their peers succumbed to during the period of Spanish rule. Aristocratic Power in the Spanish Monarchy, the first major study of the family in the seventeenth century, challenges this myth and explains how it came about. Based on research in the previously inaccessible Borromeo private papers, the volume details the Borromeo's increasing involvement with, and dependence on, the patronage of the kings of Spain. At the center of the analysis are the ways in which one family sought to rationalize and conceal this controve...
The book provides a comprehensive taxonomy of non-symmetrical eigenvalues problems as applied to power systems. The book bases all formulations on mathematical concept of “matrix pencils” (MPs) and considers both regular and singular MPs for the eigenvalue problems. Each eigenvalue problem is illustrated with a variety of examples based on electrical circuits and/or power system models and controllers and related data are provided in the appendices of the book. Numerical methods for the solution of all considered eigenvalue problems are discussed. The focus is on large scale problems and, hence, attention is dedicated to the performance and scalability of the methods. The target of the b...
This Special Issue “Power System Simulation, Control and Optimization” offers valuable insights into the most recent research developments in these topics. The analysis, operation, and control of power systems are increasingly complex tasks that require advanced simulation models to analyze and control the effects of transformations concerning electricity grids today: Massive integration of renewable energies, progressive implementation of electric vehicles, development of intelligent networks, and progressive evolution of the applications of artificial intelligence.
This book introduces innovative and interdisciplinary applications of advanced technologies. Featuring the papers from the 10th DAYS OF BHAAAS (Bosnian-Herzegovinian American Academy of Arts and Sciences) held in Jahorina, Bosnia and Herzegovina on June 21–24, 2018, it discusses a wide variety of engineering and scientific applications of the different techniques. Researchers from academic and industry present their work and ideas, techniques and applications in the field of power systems, mechanical engineering, computer modelling and simulations, civil engineering, robotics and biomedical engineering, information and communication technologies, computer science and applied mathematics.
Frequency Variations in Power Systems: Modeling, State Estimation and Control presents the Frequency Divider Formula (FDF); a unique approach that defines, calculates and estimates the frequency in electrical energy systems. This authoritative book is written by two noted researchers on the topic. They define the meaning of frequency of an electrical quantity (such as voltage and current) in non-stationary conditions (for example the frequency is not equal to the nominal one) and pose the foundation of the frequency divider formula. The book describes the consequences of using a variable frequency in power system modelling and simulations, in state estimation and frequency control applicatio...
It is well known that certain diseases and patient conditions are associated with increased perioperative risk. The aim of this book is to define and identify the clinical factors that warrant a broader and more detailed assessment of pre-operative surgical risk in difficult and unusual clinical settings. One of the sections is dedicated to the main pathway of peri- and post-surgical critical care based on the patient-specific deterioration risk and associated diseases; here, a panel of selected experts describes the correct patient-oriented pathways for complex or unscheduled surgical operations in order to reduce the operative risk. In addition, the book describes the latest trends in mini...
Converter-Based Dynamics and Control of Modern Power Systems addresses the ongoing changes and challenges in rotating masses of synchronous generators, which are transforming dynamics of the electrical system. These changes make it more important to consider and understand the role of power electronic systems and their characteristics in shaping the subtleties of the grid and this book fills that knowledge gap. Balancing theory, discussion, diagrams, mathematics, and data, this reference provides the information needed to acquire a thorough overview of resilience issues and frequency definition and estimation in modern power systems. This book offers an overview of classical power system dyn...
